Lean & Kobus’ Cute Country Wedding

Lean & Kobus’ Cute Country Wedding

Today’s real wedding is a bit of a treat for me, as Lean & Kobus got married in Tulbagh, a place with special memories for me as it’s where Mr B and I married two years ago.  They chose to host morning wedding at Roodezand (which literally translates  as ‘red sand’ which the area is known for) a gorgeous venue set against the mountains.  They made the most of the warm Autumn weather with an informal drinks reception complete with haybales and bunting in the courtyard, before a lunchtime reception with their guests in the beautifully decorated barn.  Cute bride Lean wore a gorgeous bespoke dress, I love the pale lilac layers peeking out from underneath, and her bridesmaids coordinated with soft grey wrap dresses.  The colour theme continued in the farm-fresh flowers, combining pretty pink, greys and greens for a fresh and romantic look.

Lean shares their story ~

We used technology to our advantage and ‘met’ each other on the internet for the first time.  We started to chat and had mutual friends – from there on we were inseparable!  After 9 months of dating, he took me to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town, where he arranged a picnic for us – a day before my birthday.  He popped the question and I said yes without any hesitation!  He gave me the most special engagement ring that he bought from Lady Peculiar in Stellenbosch.  It had “Trouvrou” (literally meaning “the lady I am going to marry”) engraved on it.\

We got married at an absolutely beautiful farm venue in Tulbagh, called Roodezand.  I was browsing around on some wedding blogs when I saw a featured wedding at the venue and I immediately loved the look and ambience of the place.  It was the first and only wedding venue that we visited on our “venue scouting” trip and just loved it.

My dress was made by the lovely and talented Simoné Roelofse of Adore Me Clothing.  She immediately understood the soft and flowing effect that I wanted for my dress.  It was important to me that my dress was suitable for our early morning wedding and I didn’t want anything sparkly or shiny.  I didn’t have a clue about fabrics and dress-making, but she assisted me wonderfully in all the choices I had to make.  It was important to me that the bridesmaids also had dresses with no shine or sparkle, so we opted for the popular infinity wrap dresses.  I always knew I wanted them to wear grey-coloured dresses.  The groom and both groomsmen wore black pants with white shirts and charcoal pullovers.  I didn’t want them to be too formal, because the wedding was quite laid back.

To be honest, I did not know what I wanted to do with hair and make-up.  I knew I had booked a fabulously talented make-up and hair artist, Marli Basson of Wellington, and I had a lot of faith in her expertise and experience.  After hours on the internet, especially Pinterest, I stumbled across a picture of a hairstyle that I liked for an early morning wedding.  Marli loved it too, so we used that for my hairstyle.  I liked the make-up that she did for me on the make-up trial, so we kept it like that for the wedding day.

I found a lot of inspiration on Pinterest, The Pretty Blog {a b.loved fave too!} and an Afrikaans blog called “Trou Inspirasie”.  For wedding Q & A, I visited a page on Facebook called “Trou Idees” (Wedding Ideas) where brides can share ideas, post questions, etc.  I honestly had a lot of DIY-plans, but was too lazy to do any of them!  We did collect all the glass jars for our flowers and I had some wooden hearts in my cupboard  that I decided to use in the chapel.  I also purchased photo frames and printed our table numbers.  We purchased a wooden window frame and I used a paint marker to write the table placements on the window panes.  I was really worried that our wedding was going to look “bland and boring” because we were not going to have any additional décor!  But in the end I’m glad that we didn’t overdo on décor, because the flowers and candles were really enough.  The florist provided the bunting inside the chapel and the venue provided all other bunting and furniture.  I borrowed the Chinese lanterns from one  my bridesmaids.  The lovely Tanya Odendaal from Studio Bloem was so amazing!  She suggested we use succulents, roses, lysianthus, pennygum, brunia and dahlias.  I was really blown away by how beautiful the flowers looked and she even put little birds’ nests with eggs on the tables to complement the country-feel.

Our photographer was the absolutely brilliant Jani-Marie Breedt from Jani B Photography.  I first met Jani when she photographed my sister’s wedding.  For the last two years I regularly followed her blog and I knew I had to have Jani for my own wedding too – I just couldn’t settle for second best!  We even moved our original wedding date to a date that she was still available!

favourite moment

It’s probably a cliché, but definitely walking down the aisle towards my groom – such a rush of adrenaline and a mixture of excitement and nerves!  And also the moment when we were pronounced husband and wife – I wanted to yell “yeah!”

advice

Relax and enjoy the day and really do not sweat the small stuff!  If you booked experienced service providers, you will have nothing to worry about – we were really blessed to have a wonderful list of providers that catered to our every need.   Brides, please DO get an “emergency kit” for the wedding day that contains needle and thread and aspirin and chalk and everything else.  At some stage you’re going to need something that’s in that kit!
