If you’ve ever uttered the words, “I’m just not a pink girl,” you may have been underestimating the versatility of this girly hue. The season’s most feminine shade also happens to be one of the most universally flattering shades as well–color us happy! Here at MDC, we definitely have a few pink girls in the bunch. And when L’Oréal Paris launched their limited edition Colour Me Pink cosmetics collection we may have gone a little overboard smearing on all the new lipsticks and glosses. So we turned to LA-based makeup artist Lily Marsh who created three fresh pink looks for us and gave us a few tips and tricks for wearing the hue the right way.

Keep the Look Simple

A polished pink look starts with a flawless base. After foundation, conceal and cover where you need it. Then skip bronzer and opt instead for a light dusting of bright pink brush on the apples of the cheeks. On the eyes, choose a muted mauve pink eye shadow with a satin pearl finish, like the MAC Eye Shadow in Petalescent that Marsh washed across the eyelids. For the final kiss of pink, Marsh went with the warm, vibrant L’Oréal Colour Riche Lipcolour in Wisteria Rose on the lips.

Stick With One Shade of Pink

The safest way to prevent your pink look from going overboard is to stick with the same shade. Marsh used just one light pink color (Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface) on the cheeks and the eyes. A little bit of eyeliner and black mascara bring a definition to the eyes, and a touch of L’Oréal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Florid Pink finishes off the look without competing with the other features.

Pair It With a Complementing Color

If you just can’t resist adding another color, choose a deeper shade in the same color family to add depth to the overall look. Marsh used Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Loose Powder Shadow in Pink Rebel on the eyelids and lower lash line, and a darker purple shadow in the crease to bump up the intensity. To get the lips to pop, Marsh used a fuchsia lip pencil underneath the light, shimmery L’Oréal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Pucker Up Pink.

Quick Tip: Marsh lined the lips with a darker color, and then concentrated a pale, iridescent lip gloss in the center to create the illusion of fuller lips.
