How to Design A Summer Luau

How to Design A Summer Luau

Luaus are one of the best events that a company could have in order to raise moral and get employees engaged. We have all been to enough company networking events or luncheons or better yet team building exercises. Most of these events ends with employees talking to each other about none other than work. A variety of things at a luau will get your mind off of who showed up late, who is hording the copy paper, or why you aren’t getting a raise this year. A luau is meant to captivate you to the point that you forget what work is and focus on what is presented in this atmosphere. Fire breathers, dancers, tropical food and not to forget the decorations. Each of thes elements are talking points that doesn’t lead to work discussion. But to get to this point takes a little bit of an imagination. Most corporations are filled with creative people. Unfortunately, these creative people dont have enough time to design a corporate party. When we say luau we do not mean setting up the plastic luau banner, the paper mache center piece, or the worn too many times hula skirt. We want you to feel as if you have been taken to a private Hawaiian island and held captive until all the excitement is over.   Here is the setting. You walk down this long passage way lined with unqiue tiki torces…like how you see on Survivor. You enter into a dark venue (if you can’t host this near the beach). All you can see is low toned yellow and orange uplighting. Immediately all the lights go out and a fire breather breaths fire illuminating the room starting your event. Male luau dancers provide a short performance setting the tone getting your mind focused on having fun. From there you are escorted to your dinner table that is decorated with floral table cloths, large leaves as tablemates, tropical flowers and exotic fruit as centerpieces. Surrounding you are staff members dressed in Hawaiian attire delivering fresh leis to your table that smells like a field of orchids. The atmosphere is now set for you to enjoy a night of creative cocktails, delicious menu items, dancing and of course entertainment. The goal here isn’t to make this event into a chance to gather everyone to introduce the new corporate policy. Its to excite your employees, give them inspiration, and let them know how special they are. If you are going the mission driven route, this can also serve as a fundraiser, awards ceremony, or a way to end your corporate conference. No matter how you design your event, be sure to make it as authentic as possible. We are happy to aid you in planning your next corporate event.
