The Bride Diaries: Emily’s Food for Thought

The Bride Diaries: Emily’s Food for Thought

Afternoon lovelies. Emily is chatting all about food today. Choosing which food to serve is an important aspect of your wedding planning, and of course getting to taste it all is pretty fun too :-) Thanks so much Emily. We’d love to hear about your wedding food choices in the comments box below XOXO Lou

I love food. Seriously love it – something that has seriously conspired against my have-a-tiny-waist-for-the-wedding plan… I love cooking, and baking, and feeding people in general, so for me food was pretty high on the wedding priority list. One of the things I’ve heard most often from people talking about weddings they’ve attended is that they were hungry, that food was served late, and that there was not enough of it when it eventually arrived – something that was a real concern to me when planning my own big day.

The first thing we dispensed with was canapés – I love them, but was totally taken aback by the cost of these tiny morsels! I was however keen to have something on hand as soon as the guests arrive, and when I bumped into Brock Ice at two different wedding fairs I was sold – ice cream it is! There have been a couple of raised eyebrows at the thought of sweet treats before dinner, but it seemed to fit so perfectly with our relaxed, festival and village fete-inspired ideas that I have chosen to ignore them… I also love that the ice cream being served is made just up the road – and will be dished out from a gorgeous vintage tricycle that should be great for a photo opportunity!
As for the main event, we wanted something filling, tasty and not too fancy – surely all people really want is something hearty to soak up the booze, I know I do! Our carnivorous guests are therefore being treated to locally made sausages with plenty of mash (and The Three Tuns makes the best gravy EVER too), with a wild mushroom risotto for the veggies. All followed up by Eton Mess – I hope the perfect summer pudding. We went along for a tasting session last week and it’s all so good – certainly good enough for me to worry about how I’ll fit a second helping into a corseted dress, and good enough that I couldn’t event take a photo before Mark had eaten half the sausages…

As for later in the evening, my family will tell you I am a cheese girl through and through – and luckily am marrying a similarly-minded man (he likes Marmite too – an actual dating requirement of mine). So we’ll have a huge cheese board in the evening, along with the wedding cake – something for everyone I hope!

So, have you enjoyed picking your wedding food? Are you having anything out of the ordinary served up – I’d love to hear!

Whilst we’re here, to finish I just wanted to give a cheeky shout out for the two weddings I’ve been lucky enough to be a guest at over the past couple of weeks. Big love and congratulations go to my gorgeous baby brother Tom, who is now somehow grown up enough to be an actual husband to the lovely Emily and proud father to Rosie, and to our dear friends Rob and Gemma, the new Mr and Mrs Whitehouse – I hope you guys are having a blast in Italy! And the food was ace at both, of course ;)
