Amy & Pete traveled home from London to Brisbane for their beautiful Brisbane Spring wedding with their closest friends and family. Arriving only shortly before their wedding day they set about with their plans – including making their own wedding cake! What a day filled with stories and lovable moments!

Amy tells their story. “We met at a wedding in Edinburgh – I was visiting the UK from Brisbane to work overseas for a couple of years, Pete had just returned to England after working abroad for a while. The wedding hosts noticed that we got along well and engineered another meeting for us, and everything fell into place from there…”

Gorgeous imagery today from Kelly Adams – dreamy, elegant and personal!

“We decided to forgo traditional invitations and instead have something that could be sent by email, yet still felt unique and a little special. We came up with this film – hand-drawn pages made into a movie that we sent to our guests.”

Pete remarks, “I was very keen to make my own ring. I’d read about how some American sailors in WW2 passed the time by forming coins into rings by tapping them against the steel structure of the ship, so I found a suitably-sized silver coin and set to work. The result is great – a bespoke and personal item that I’m very proud to wear.”

The Rotunda, New Farm Park  was chosen for the ceremony, Amy noting, “The ceremony was held at the Rotunda in New Farm Park, and the reception at the Brisbane Powerhouse. New Farm Park is a beautiful spot, open and spacious yet close to the heart of Brisbane. The Rotunda formed a bright and airy yet intimate space for the ceremony, and allowed relaxed lounging in the sunshine with some bubbly and an ice cream once the deal was sealed.”

“Amy arrived to Pachelbel’s Canon, though that was the extent of tradition – we signed the register to Bob Dylan’s “Lay lady lay”, and exited to “I just can’t get enough” by Nouvelle Vague.”

Cone Queen made a special visit to the wedding.

Of their photographer, Amy says, “We browsed websites looking for a photographer, Kelly Adams stood out from the crowd. We love the unique, intimate and contemporary look of her work. When she works she’s focused and creative, yet really fun – we thoroughly enjoyed spending our day with Kelly, which was fortunate as we naively underestimated how big a part of the day she’d be! She captured the day beautifully, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We’re proud to have her photos on our walls.” They loved her so much they made her this little film, check it out!

Amy wore a gown from Stewart Parvin, London  while her bridesmaids wore green frocks from Zara.

Brisbane Powerhouse hosted the reception, Amy noting, “We were really attracted to the contemporary industrial vibe of The Powerhouse, which contrasted well with the ceremony. The bar and barbecue was on a terrace overlooking the river, with an adjacent beautiful room for the dinner and party.”

“We made our own wedding cake, though the logistics of doing this when you live in England and arrive in Brisbane just a week before the wedding are something that we’d rather not repeat. We baked a fruit cake a year in advance and ensured it was regularly fed with Brandy by Amy’s family. The rest of the cake (we have a fantastic recipe for chocolate mud cake) was made in several of the nights before the big day as we juggled organisation tasks for the ceremony. After a couple of attempts at icing the job was done and we breathed a sigh of relief. It was delicious!”

Of their first dance, Amy remembers, “We danced to “Mango Tree” by Angus and Julia Stone. We had a few dance lessons and a bit of practice, and made a very passable impression of looking like we knew what we were doing.”

Congratulations Amy & Pete on our wedding! Thank you for sharing your stories with us! Thank you also to Kelly Adams for sharing today’s images with us!
