#118: something blue

#118: something blue

Blue. Something of an overlooked wedding colour perhaps? Of course most of us might carry a token down the aisle as our ‘something blue’ to bring us luck, but it’s not often we see it used as a whole colour palette.  I’m not really sure why, as this week’s mood board shows blue can be just as pretty as it’s pink counterpart!  I adore the whole ombre & watercolour trends that emerged last year and is working it’s way into 2013 bride’s inspiration boards and this shading trend is a great way to use a strong colour like blue.  It might be a little overbearing used for every little detail, but softening the tone from bold and brave to soft and understated makes it easy & workable for a contemporary wedding scheme.

The subtle blue painterly effect on these invites from minted are the perfect way to set the tone, and perfectly match this clever tiled escort card display.  Adding a touch of colour to your w-day outfit is a sure way to carry your theme from ceremony to bridal portraits to reception, giving your photo’s an over all colour story.  Try a blue ribbon sash and daring blue shoes (I’ve loved these from the moment I first saw them) and ombre bridesmaids dresses.  For flowers, how about blue mason jars and vintage medicine bottles with their green-blue glass tint with delphiniums, cornflower and hydrangea in varying shades of blue?  The paper-thin texture of these flowers along with dainty ruffles on the cake keep the look delicate and pretty.  It’s simply not a celebration without bubbles, treat your guests to mini bottles of POP from Pommery to toast the happy couple!

Oh, and did you notice the overall theme of this board is Royal Blue? Just a little nod to our future King. Welcome Prince George
