Simple and Personal Glastonbury Wedding: Laura & Toby

Simple and Personal Glastonbury Wedding: Laura & Toby

Laura and Toby were married at Glastonbury Town Hall over the festival weekend so they could have their reception at the festival itself! “For us getting married at Glastonbury Festival was the obvious choice”, Laura explained. “We love Glastonbury as a town and of course the festival is the ultimate Rock n Roll party location. We have been attending for many years, it is the highlight of our summer. I don’t think there are many people who can say that they had the Rolling Stones play at their wedding reception! Despite wanting to keep it a simple and quiet wedding we certainly had a huge party, we think about 180,000 people attended!”

Laura wore a French Connection dress, Hunter wellies and a floral head garland which she bought from a stall at the festival. “I wanted to wear something that I could relax in at the festival and of course I had to consider if it was going to be muddy – therefore I had to ensure it was a short dress! I still wanted it to look traditional in colour but other than that I just went for something I could wear again and again.”

“Our wedding was really personal and simple”, she continued. “We wanted the day to truly reflect us as a couple and one that represented our happy times and our favourite moments spent together. For me, a personal highlight was discovering on the morning I didn’t need to drive! Toby is in the process of learning to drive so the job of driver is always up to me. it’s something which didn’t bother me until the morning of our wedding. I suddenly regretted not organising a car to pick us up. To be honest I didn’t think it would have been possible anyway as all the local roads were closed off to non-festival traffic. However to my surprise waiting for us outside our tipi was a 1924 Buick complete with white bridal ribbons and champagne! Toby had arranged this as a surprise!”

“We loved that many of our friends were waiting to party with us outside the StoneBridge Bar in The Park. Those friends who didn’t know each other soon managed to work our who was who by the ‘just married’ balloons that they were carrying – they figured out that there couldn’t be too many other people getting married that day, so they all managed to meet together. They even bought confetti!”

“The most special part really was our ceremony though. It was just the two of us, no family or friends, we didn’t even know our witnesses… It was a moment in time just for us. We both lead very busy lives and spend a lot of time with those we love, our family and friends however it was important to us that we took this moment to say our vows just to each other, a little private memory that will live with us forever.”

“I also loved our accommodation! Neither of us fancied getting ready in our small pop up tent so instead we booked a tipi and it really was the icing on the cake. We had a double bed, hot showers and the all important electrical plus and mirrors for taming the festival hair! Although saying that we had booked the tipi before we had even got engaged… We called it our ‘once in a lifetime festival treat’ once we had successfully booked our festival tickets. It turns out that booking the tipi was a pretty smart move as I believe they were all sold out by the time we got engaged, and then the Glastonbury Festival Wedding might not have gone so smoothly! Things really do happen for a reason!”

“Anything is possible for a wedding”, Laura advises in conclusion. “We organised ours in less than three weeks and it was the most fun three weeks we’ve ever had. We made sure we cherished every moment of the planning and early celebrations (and there were many!) as we knew it was all going to be over soon. We made our wedding truly unique by sticking to what we love and making it about each other. Neither of us felt we needed to go overboard with our clothes or additional props, as it was about us, our marriage and then the festival. Simple, fun and very Rock n Roll.”
