We love makeup: picking it out, experimenting with colors, applying it–all great. There is one teeny tiny little caveat…when we want it gone, we want it all gone. For the beauty-obsessed, finding a makeup remover to really wipe the slate clean is right up there with finding Mr. Right. To end our search (for the perfect clean) for once and for all, we turned to the pros and asked them what makeup removing marvels they stock their own beauty arsenals with.

1. Garnier Refreshing Remover Cleansing Towelettes

These convenient wipes came up multiple times during our hunt. According to celebrity makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar, “they remove makeup quickly and easily without leaving a greasy film on the skin or my hands. And they have a cloth-like texture versus most other wipes that feel very synthetic. They don't smell bad either.”

2. Bioderma Créaline H2O

Professional makeup artist Colleen Runne says, “It’s one of the industry's best makeup removers as it is very gentle, fragrance free and cleans up some of the toughest makeup. Plus it is the remover all the models ask for.”

3. Yves Saint Laurent Toning and Micellar Cleansing Water

YSL national makeup artist Dell Ashley loves this unique hybrid “because it can be used to take makeup off both the face and eyes. It evaporates into the skin leaving no film or oily residue.”

4. Dermalogica PreCleanse

“It's a makeup melting cleansing oil that gets rid of every trace of makeup, and once rinsed off, leaves the skin feeling silky, not greasy,” LA-based makeup artist Melissa Walsh says of her top pick.

5. Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

Eye makeup can be particularly troublesome when it comes to removal. Lancôme national makeup artist Ricardo Costales has the solution. “When we talk about removing eye makeup, the queen of removers is our very own Hall of Fame: Bi-Facil two-phased remover. It’s never greasy, never harsh, but yet removes waterproof products without pulling or irritating the eyes.” Costales swears, once you try it, you’ll never go back!

6. Dr. Alkaitis Mascara & Eye Makeup Remover

Celebrity makeup artist Katey Denno favors the natural approach of this simple remover. “It's basically just almond oil, which is fantastic for removing even the most stubborn waterproof makeup.”
