One of Rebecca’s first memories of Sam features him running around the playground in his red Ninja Turtles headband while they were both in elementary school. “I had a crush on Sam ever since we met in Mrs. McMillian’s class,” she says, “but he was totally oblivious of my feelings.” Little did Sam know that Rebecca, the girl he thought always had the coolest pencils and erasers, would be his future bride.

The two went their separate ways after high school, but when Sam returned to Halifax after completing university, he finally asked Rebecca out for coffee. Before they knew it, he was asking Rebecca to marry him in Kissimmee, Florida, while both of their families were there on a Christmas vacation.

Rebecca and Sam got married in a traditional church ceremony and later celebrated with their 200 guests at a classic, elegant reception at the Westin Nova Scotia hotel, where friends of the couple sang “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison for their first dance as husband and wife.
