Where to begin!  Where to begin!   There are few times that I’m rendered this utterly speechless, but there is just so much beautiful goodness in this wedding I can honestly say I don’t know where to start!  Katherine and Michael’s wedding is the epitome of what happens when you put all of things that are special and meaningful in your lives together into a wedding.  Ell Photography has shared this journey that is the perfect blend of culture, tradition and vintage everything  wrapped into a pretty little destination- Santa Fe- wedding.  And as if that wasn’t enough to make heart stop from happiness, Katherine and Michael have even shared their recipes for the favors they created!  You cannot miss this super special wedding!

From the bride:

It was so important that we include aspects of New Mexican culture in our wedding, not only because I’m from there, but we met in Santa Fe. It’s a place that truly feels like home for both of us. As for the vintage touches and lots of old and borrowed things, we share a passion for things with a story and age. Starting with my engagement ring, it just felt natural to use things in our wedding and continue old family traditions as well as making new ones. We wanted everything in the wedding to have our touch or someone from our family’s touch on it.

 

Katherine and Michael live in NYC but perfectly planned a destination wedding in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Filled with some of the most perfect vintage touches this wedding is about more than just old fashioned decor and design, it’s a nod to story-telling and tradition. It starts with Katherine’s engagement ring which originally belonged to Michael’s great grandmother and has been passed down since. There’s the bride’s vintage inspired gown that was custom made from Dolly Couture and embellished with pieces from her mother’s mantilla veil, the brooch bouquet was crafted from family heirlooms, all of Katherine’s jewelry was also vintage.  Michael’s boutonniere held a fish charm that his dad used to wear to have him present on their big day and the his pocket watch was gift from his mother years ago.  The groom’s duds were also vintage Ralph Lauren.   Other important vintage touches added special meaning and highlighted their strong cultural unity like the Mexican wedding coins and the traditional German toasting cup.

Now let’s talk some DIY!  These projects are utterly amazing! As if I wasn’t floored by the brooch bouquet, I have never seen anything like Katherine’s hand-knit veil and garter.  She also knit the chuppah.  Originally for her brother’s wedding it was borrowed for her and Michael’s big day.   Katherine also made the knitted nest for the ring warming ceremony and adorable cake topper made from finger puppets.  Finally, Katherine’s mom not only made the delicious treats for the favors, but consider yourselves the luckiest virtual guests ever; she has graciously shared the recipes!
