Castle Wedding Video with Story of Eve

We’re taking a little break from our usual Friday routine today. This wasn’t a normal week for us- since we got to share our Amelie inspired styled shoot we didn’t get in as many real features as we usually do. So today we’d like to bring you this sweet wedding video. Selina and Niall’s love story started when they were 15 and culminated in this beautiful Darver Castle celebration filmed by Story of Eve. Selina’s dress is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

Paula O’Hara

Tell us about how you met and got engaged.

We met in school when we were 14. The first time we spoke was on a school trip to Galway. We started dating a few months later when we were both 15. We had lived in Australia for about 6 months, I came home one month before Niall. When he was flying back I met him in London, he booked us into a really plush hotel and asked me the next day in St James’s Gardens.

How did you pick your venue, and did you have a specific theme in mind?

We got married in St Peter’s Church which was Niall’s local church, and our ceremony was officiated by Monsignor Aidan Hamill and Fr John O’Sullivan.  It had been recently restored and is really beautiful. The reception was in Darver Castle in Co. Louth. We just loved it from the first time we visited- it had been recommended by a friend, and we thought it was a bit quirky and different. The owners and staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. We went for a vintage-inspired theme, since the wedding dress was vintage and the venue was a castle it was natural for us to head in that direction!

Tell us about any challenges you faced in the run up.

Surprisingly for me there were no dramas! We found the venue fairly quickly and got the date we wanted. I bought the first dress I tried on and the first bridesmaid dresses, everything was plain sailing really. This was mostly down to help from our family. We didn’t use a wedding planner, but got plenty of advice from family members. We’re both the youngest in our families and so had lots of advice from our married siblings.

What was the best decision you made?

Apart from the decision to get married it would have to be the venue, our choice of photographer and videographer. Actually now I think of it all the things we decided on worked out perfectly, decision making is not something I am usually good at but when it came to the wedding we knew what we wanted and luckily had a lot of great advice and talented people around us. We actually had very little to do, not every couple is as blessed in that respect. My sister Johanna is very organised and had been married 4 months before us so she was beside me through every step of the planning process!

Most memorable moment?

It’s not really a moment as such, but the most memorable thing was just the realisation that so many people had given their time to be with us on our wedding day and just the generosity of our guests and their well wishes. It is truly over-whelming on the day; it’s hard to put into words how grateful you are for it.

Any regrets or advice?

We should have brought insect repellent on our engagement shoot! I don’t know how Paula and Michael managed to take photographs and shoot a short film through the swarm of flies that invaded Slieve Gullion. We were all eaten alive but it was definitely worth it! Our advice would be not to over-think your decisions; go with your gut instinct. Be realistic, you can’t have every last thing you want- unless your budget and free time is unlimited. If you get the big things right like the venue, photographer and band then everything else should fall into place.

What a sweet story and great advice. And how beautiful is that dress? I love the way it catches the light as Selina moves. If you’d like to check out more from this wedding head on over to Story of Eve’s blog. Have a great weekend!
