Busy Girl's Guide: Troubleshooting Your Morning Routine

Busy Girl's Guide: Troubleshooting Your Morning Routine

via

All mornings are rough (unless you're one of those "morning people," in which case we envy you). Some mornings are especially brutal. And when we say brutal, we're not talking about the oops I overslept type of mornings. We're talking about the days when everything goes wrong and you find yourself very close to asking your reflection, "Am I on Punk'd?" This guide will get you through those nothing-is-going-your-way mornings no matter how far from redeemable they seem.

Scenario: You wake up with Sasquatch hair and CANNOT find your hair brush.

Solution: The good news is texture (yes, we're referring to a serious case of bed hair as texture) makes a messy bun all the more exciting. So rather than the fighting the roughage, embrace it. Better yet, add to it with dry shampoo. Spray or on the roots to boost volume and all over to give your strands some grip. Then flip your head, over tousle your tresses, and pull your hair into a high pony. Haphazardly twist the pony into a bun and secure it with a few bobby pins.

Total Time: 2 minutes.

Scenario: You're OUT of toothpaste (someone must have used the last of it).

Solution: Step 1: suppress your freak out. Step 2: head to the kitchen. Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/8 cup of water in a dish. Stir until you've created a paste. Pour a small portion of the mixture onto your toothbrush and brush those pearly whites. This two-ingredient teeth cleaner is totally safe and will save you from a day of popping Trident and coyly covering your mouth during conversation.

Total Time: 2.5 minutes.

Scenario: Your blow dryer quits-just stops working, mid-dry.

Solution: Blow dryers can only live so long. The problem with pushing the boundaries when yours is on the fritz is that when its inevitable demise strikes, it can really cramp your style at the most inopportune time. Today will be an air-dry day. First things first, step away from the towel. Your hair dries faster when it's actually exposed to the air. Finger comb it every so often to help speed the process along. When you're down to your final minutes before heading out, braid those slightly damp strands. Your hair will look polished and you'll set yourself up nicely for loose waves tomorrow. If you live in a warm climate and drive to work, roll the windows down and let nature's blow dryer do the trick. Just be sure to stash smoothing serum in your purse to tame flyways upon arrival. If you live in a colder climate, we suggest you make it a hat day as well.

Total Time: 1 - 10 minutes.

Scenario: You're out of hot water.

Solution: Okay, truth be told, this scenario is probably more like you just can't muster up the strength to get in the shower. Whatever the situation may be, grab a pack of cleansing wipes (we like L'Oréal RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Wet Cleansing Towelettes ). Use one for your face and one for body. Concentrate on the areas of your body that tend to sweat the most-under arms, backs of knees, crooks of elbows, feet-and don't forget your back. For extra freshness, rub a small amount of baby powder onto those same areas. Deodorant will also be key today, while overcompensating with perfume will not.

Total Time: 3 minutes.
