We've been through a lot with our ponytails. It was the first hairstyle we ever mastered, our savior during the sweaty horror of middle school PE class, and our go-to companion for lazy Saturdays spent on the couch Netflix binging being, uh, very productive. If our ponytail were to be given its own high school superlative, it would be win "Most Reliable" by a landslide. But lately we're starting to realize that our trusty cohort may have untapped potential. After all, shouldn't it be able to enjoy champagne-filled nights and dancing until the wee hours of the morning just as much as our braided updos and bouncy curls?

Enter the tousled pony. Your everyday pony with that extra little oomph, this upgraded pony is fun, voluminous and certainly worth showing off. Little Miss Reliable may have just become the next contender for Homecoming Queen...

1. Apply a texturizing powder like L'Oréal True Grip Texturizing Powder from your roots to the ends of your hair, scrunching as you go.

2. Gather your hair into a ponytail, leaving slight volume at the top. Secure with an elastic.

3. Take a small section of hair and wrap around the elastic. Pin in place with a bobby pin underneath the ponytail.

4. Give your locks an extra tease at the base of the pony using a brush or comb. If needed, you can tease the rest of the ponytail for a more textured look.
