A wedding gift registry or bridal registry is now an accepted practice and we have Marshall Field's to thank for it. They instituted the practice as a way for engaged couples to let their family and friends know their preferences in china, silver and crystal patterns. Target took it to the next level with its introduction of the electronic self-service gift registry. Technology today has taken bridal registry to new heights, you can now use your smart phones and wedding planner mobile apps to take photos of the items and barcodes. The item is automatically added to the stores registry and to you online wedding website.

We have noticed that most brides go for the things like crystal, china and silver but forget to add the more practical household items that they will surely need. There are hundreds of items large and small that are needed to run a household. It is not until newlyweds return from the honeymoon and start to set up shop do they begin to realize the things that they should have really been asking for. While fine china and good silver are great they will hardly be used on a daily basis. These are the items we are hoping to get brides to consider with this article. Housework is a fact of married life and why not get a few of the things that makes this job easier.

  1. One of the first things you will notice is that light bulbs do not last forever. How many of you reading this has given a thought to adding a step ladder to the wedding wish lists. They are also great fro cleaning those high windows and ceiling fans.

  2. A vacuum cleaner with all the attachments or even a separate handheld vacuum. It is also a great idea to ask for a carpet shampooer. These items will make keeping house a whole lot easier.

  3. While this may seem a bit mundane but there is no substitute for a good broom, dustpan and mop.

  4. So you asked for that beautiful bedding and those 600 count sheets but did you also remember to ask for pillows.

  5. When you throw your first get-together you will find out how important folding chairs can be. Ask for several in your wedding registry and while you are at it why not go for the ones with cushioned backs and seats.

This is list is just to get you thinking in a practical manner before going shopping to add items to your wedding gift registry . Sure get the grand items on there but do not forget that a wedding is only the beginning of a marriage and building a home is what it is all about.
