the new england issue: bouquet recipes

Written by: Liz

As we leave behind the festive reds and greens of Christmas, we're settling into a calm palette of colours and looking to the year ahead. Soft pastels and delicate hues whisper of warmer, lighter, brighter weather to come (we hope!), making us shrug off those cosy jumpers and embrace a fresh new style.

New England style takes classic combinations and adds a touch of whimsical romance, so for my first bouquet I chose to blend classic structured flowers powder blue hydrangea, peach avalanche roses and pink dahlia with ivory astible and vibernum berries adding texture and contrast. This bouquet is hand-tied with stems left showing and bound with a navy blue shot ribbon.

Our second bouquet maintains this classic look on a smaller scale, with softer colours and delicate foliage. Baby pink dahlia and periwinkle blue delphinium add our main touches of colour, with ivory astilbe, scabious and nigella thrown in for fairy light detail and finished with a vibrant blue taffeta ribbon. For seasonal alternatives try blush pink anemones and pale blue hyacinths.
