A DIY Rustic English Country Garden Party Wedding - Zoey & Owen

via

Good morning OMG readers! I've got a beautiful English country garden wedding to share with you today shot by the lovely Sue Kwiatkowska earlier this summer. The couple, Zoey and Owen, chose St Margaret the Queen in Buxted for their ceremony followed by a rustic summery reception at Court Gardens Farm in Ditchling. I really love all the special details in this wedding as it features the work of not only the bride and groom but also the couple's families who all pitched in to make their day meaningful.

The bride wore a beautiful wedding dress from Phase Eight, heels from a Cancer Research charity shop and evening [dancing] sandals from Accessorize. The groom dazzled in a suit from local shop Coles and wore shoes from Marks and Spencer.

The overall colours for the day included pastel blues, peaches, neutrals and greys which filtered through to the beautiful lace bridesmaids gowns from Next and Monsoon as well as the flowers expertly fashioned by Simple Blooms Floral Designs. The table centres referenced the rustic nature of the wedding with jugs of flowers dotted along the tables, accompanied by jam jars collected by the couple and the place names for the table were made by Zoey and Owen out of brown luggage labels and stickers.

The couple also worked together to make the blue and white tissue paper pom poms, table runners from hessian, 'Mr and Mrs' bunting for the top table and 'All you need is love' bunting to go across the gallery in the barn. They wrapped the beams in the gallery in ivy (which was growing over their garage) and adorned the remaining beams with fairy lights. The bride's father cut some silver birch branches, which they then potted in galvanised buckets, draped in more fairy lights (you can never have too many twinkly lights!) and asked guests to hang their messages from - writing on luggage labels and tying to the tree.

The groom even got to show off his woodworking skills (even though he's a web developer by trade!) by making a skittle alley for guests to play in the courtyard, and also the 'Thank you' signs they are now using for their thank you cards.

Last but certainly not least, the Zoey's sister is very handily a pastry chef, so she made their beautiful blue and white floral wedding cake. But that's not all! Her partner is also a chef so he made the canapes for the drinks reception.

Advice from the Bride:
Think about the things you enjoy most and make sure these things shape the overall theme of the day. We enjoy festivals and being outdoors so we had a live band in the evening and an outdoor bar, with straw bales for family/friends to sit on, with a bbq in the evening. It was all very relaxed. Don't get caught up on trying to please everybody else by or feeling like you should be doing 'traditional' things - do the things that you enjoy and I'm sure everybody else will love it.

Any regrets?
I forgot to eat breakfast or enjoy a glass of bubbly on the morning of the wedding because I was so preoccupied getting ready and making sure that everybody else was getting ready too! I wish I had set aside a bit of time to really savour the moment with my mum and my sisters over a glass of fizz.

Best decision made:
Hiring a band. It was a bit pricier than hiring a DJ but they were brilliant - they had Owen's cousin (aged six) on tambourine for most of the evening and even got Owen's brother up singing Led Zeppelin. It created much more of an atmosphere and everybody was up dancing by the end of the night, so that's a bonus! I'm also really pleased that we invited children to the wedding too. It's not everybody's choice but for me they were a constant source of entertainment and we loved having them running around.

Thanks so much to the bride and groom for sharing such a beautiful day and also the the lovely Sue Kwiatkowska. Enjoy!
