A City Wedding in Porto, Portugal

A City Wedding in Porto, Portugal

via

Todays couple, Cynthia and Jan met during college at the birthday party of a mutual friend and while on holidays in Sintra, Portugal a few years later, Jan got down on one knee in the centre of the beautiful Palácio da Pena to ask Cynthia to be his wife. Their beautiful wedding in Porto was attended by their close family and friends from Belgium and beyond and as you will soon see, it was one fabulously stylish and chic day, captured effortlessly by the team at Gloria Aguiam.

From the Bride;

The best decision we made was to have a destination wedding. We often go to Portugal and during the holiday whem we got engaged, we visited Porto to experience the Porto wine fest. Walking the streets of Porto, we accidentally came across the The Yeatman and joked about having the wedding there. When we arrived back in Belgium we searched the Yeatman on the internet and fell in love with the view and the location. We also visited venues around Lisbon and another venue in Porto and it was difficult to make a decision because there are just so many beautiful venues in Portugal. We finally decided to get married in Porto and at the Yeatman because we loved the venue and it's beautiful view of Porto. Our guests could also fly to Porto with Ryanair (so the tickets wouldn't be too expensive) and we wanted them to come to Porto not only for our wedding but also more as a city break. Porto is so diverse that there is something for everyone, no matter what their interests are. Some people went to the beach, others visited museums, others went to a natural park close to Porto and all enjoyed themselves and on the Friday night before the wedding, we treated them to some culture with a boar cruise on the Douro with Fado music! We chose the Yeatman because of the location and views. The venue is not far from the airport and guests didn't have to rent a car to get there - they were able to take a taxi or the ride the metro. For us, the most challenging part that came with getting married abroad was trying to figure out how many guest would be able to make it. We used a planner though so it helped a lot. Because I'm Chinese, we wanted to include some Chinese elements throughout the ceremony but we didn't have a specific theme in mind. We just went with the atmopshere of the place. The most memorable moment for me was the amazing night view of Porto during the diner and while we were cutting of the cake - it was stunning. The best advice we can share is to use a wedding planner if you decide to get married abroad. It's also important to choose a location that is easily accessible for the guests and somewhere that they can have a nice time besides on the wedding day."
