Beautiful Personal & Crafty Wedding in Northumberland with a Sabina Motasem Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

WWW Readers Elizabeth and Christopher are a really creative couple, and so their September 2013 wedding was always going to involve getting crafty. Elizabeth and Christopher hired Ellingham Hall, Northumberland for a whole weekend, treating their guests to a long celebration which sounded such fun.

It was important to them that they used local or independent businesses when sourcing suppliers. They also DIY'd much of their day, there were Orla Kiely table runners, cross stitch place names and pretty blooms in bottles.

Elizabeth chose a striking Sabina Motasem dress, which she wore with sweet Rachel Simpson shoes; a most elegant bride Elizabeth made indeed. So much beauty for you readers this morning.

Thanks so much to Helen Russell for sharing her beautiful photographs with us today.

In China brides get bridal photos taken before their wedding at local beauty spots, such as Qingdao beach. Unbeknown to me this meant Chris spent the day of his planned proposal walking past around 100 brides getting their photos taken.

Chris's degree is in illustration and I enjoy crafting so we knew that between us and our talented friends and family we would be able to create a personal and relaxed wedding day. We tried to buy the majority of items from independent businesses, locally where possible or using sources such as Etsy.

We got the most important things like venue and photographer booked straight away and the rest just fell into place using wedding blogs like WWW as an invaluable source of inspiration.

Ellingham Hall were extremely flexible and let us have exactly the wedding day we wanted. For our wedding breakfast we had afternoon tea followed by a barbecue in the evening. For the rest of the weekend we had the hall to ourselves and could relax with our nearest and dearest.

The Dress + Accessories... My dress was by the very lovely and talented London based designer Sabina Motasem. My shoes were by Rachel Simpson and my hair slide was from Susanne Gadegaard on Etsy. My something borrowed was my pearl necklace which my dad bought my mum for their pearl wedding anniversary. My something old was my gold bracelet which I inherited from my grandma, given to her by my grandpa.

I found Sabina Motasem on a wedding blog and immediately loved her elegant, vintage inspired dresses. She creates luxurious, timeless dresses which are perfect for anyone not looking for a run of the mill wedding dress. Sabina allows her clients to customise her designs with a range of different necklines, sleeve and embellishment options. Sabina is also absolutely lovely and she made the whole process extremely enjoyable.

For the ceremony and reception Anna Corcoran played piano and sung. One of our few regrets is not getting enough time to sit and listen to her as she really was wonderful and much complimented by our guests.

I walked down the aisle to 'She's a Rainbow' by the Rolling Stones, my dad's favourite band and our first dance was 'All day and all of the night' by the Kinks, who are one of our all time favourites.

I also collected old bottles from bric-a-brac stores and vintage markets and filled them with wholesale flowers.

My dad and I made the cake stands using candlesticks and wooden circles, which we painted to match our other handmade details.

As soon as we met Helen it was obvious that she was extremely passionate about photography and understood exactly what we were looking for. Despite it being quite a time between booking and our wedding she kept in touch throughout and even helped me with recommendations for other suppliers.

On the day Helen was both professional and full of enthusiasm, she blended in perfectly with our guests and captured the day exactly like we remember it. It was such a pleasure having Helen as part of our wedding day and the result is a set of photos that we are absolutely chuffed with.

Chris's university friend John has an Etsy shop making jewellery trees, which were the inspiration for our table centres. We decided on peacocks because of the venue's resident peacocks and John designed and created them for us.

Two of our groomsmen Craig and Mickey are graphic designers. Mickey created an illustration of our venue and designed our invitations. Craig designed our order or service, table names and table plan. They were briefed with capturing and embracing the local area - they did this perfectly.

My bridesmaid Lyndsay created our peacock sign and our initials and my mum made paintings for us.

The last song of the evening 'Bugsy Malone - We could have been anything', went down incredibly well! Having all your friends from different parts of your life all singing along and dancing together was amazing.
