Vivid & Bright Colourful Barn Wedding in Cheshire with a Mia Mia Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

I love colour, and there is no doubt that this morning's couple Hannah and Nick do too. They wanted their wedding to be bright and vivid with an informal atmosphere.

They married on the 14 th September 2013 at Owen's House Wedding Barn in Cheshire. They had some really unique elements to their wedding, the tapas wedding food sounded like a great idea and I love the colourful bridesmaid dresses.

Multicoloured ties, lanterns, bouquets and lighting... brilliant.

Thanks so much to Nicola Thompson for sharing her gorgeous imagery with us today.

We then stopped at Mobberley cricket club, Nick set up a picnic while I was instructed to go inside and get a couple of drinks. When I returned, there was a beautiful picnic full of all my favourite foods and snacks set up with another note and balloon saying 'Just say yes'. Nick said there was something he wanted me to hear and he played a song to me on his iPod which was a song he had written. He was playing guitar and his friend on vocals and mid way through the song, the words said 'will you marry me?' ..... Nick then went on one knee and revealed a beautiful and perfect ring and the answer was obviously yes!

The surprises didn't stop there, he had booked a hotel in Alderley Edge, the next village and had arranged for my brother and his girlfriend to drive our car there with dresses, make up and everything I would need for a night out. We went out for a beautiful meal and drinks to top the night off. Just Say Yes by Snow Patrol was our first dance for this reason.

We contacted a friend we know whose family own a local farm, on talking to them, they were just in the process of debating whether to convert one of there old cattle sheds into a wedding barn. Our enquiry made their decision for them and so the building works began. We watched the barn transform from a corrugated shed, into a beautiful, quirky, rustic barn - just perfect for what we had in mind.

Trawling through magazines, Pinterest and the internet, we gradually pinned together idea after idea of what we wanted to create.

I then went to Love Boutique in Altrincham and tried a couple of dresses on. As soon as I tried the Lantana dress by Mia Mia, I loved it. It was over the price I had originally wanted to pay for a dress - about 3x as much, as I was adamant that I was not spending that type of money on a dress that I would just wear the once. I was happy with a dress from Coast as there are some lovely styles in there now for no where near the types of money you spend in a dress shop.

I continued to go to a couple more shops in the hope that I would see something I preferred that was closer to my budget, however every lovely dress I tried on, I liked ...... but it just wasn't 'the' dress! In the end Nick told me to go for the one I loved and so I did! I put my money from my 30 th towards it to help bring it closer to the amount I had set aside for a dress and from then on, I was one happy girl! I couldn't put the dress on without grinning! It was so me - quite plain, not too much detail with and average train ..... I loved it!

The Wedding bus - We arranged an old fashioned, red wedding bus to take guests from our local village up to the church and reception venue. We kept this as a surprise, so their faces were a picture when the bus pulled into the car park to pick them up.

My Dad's and Nick's speech - Nick wrote a funny poem about how he knew me and liked me when I was a bar maid in a local bar ..... 'The barmaid from the Downs'

The turnout and atmosphere - We couldn't have asked for better, everyone we invited, everyone we know and love turned up and made the day just perfect. We had soooo many messages the next day from people saying it was the best wedding/party they had ever been to. That's what we wanted!!

The band - You have to see them to understand just how good they are! They were definitely one of the talking points after the night.

It does fly, everyone tells you so and it's true. There is just so much happening constantly that the minutes just tick away. I would highly recommend a videographer ..... We have enjoyed so much watching it back and reliving the moments. The guest messages are priceless too!
