Although a full service caterer will cost more than a minimum service caterer and definitely more than Aunt Bonnie and friends, but then again you get what you are willing to pay for. If you want to provide your own catering then the venue you choose will be the most important thing. Many wedding venues have contracts with caterers or in-house catering that you have to use. While the nice ladies at the church may give you an awesome deal they may not be able to pull off the right feel you want for your wedding. Believe it or not over 95% of all weddings that go this route end in disaster.

There are tons of things that could go wrong that will make your wedding day one you will want to forget. We have listed a few here:

1. The absolute worst thing that can and usually does happen is that you end up without enough food to feed all your guests. Portion control and portion management is a science and a lot of do-it-yourself caterers just do not have that expertise.

2. Often the food is not ready when the people are ready to eat. When you have non-professionals often the food is not ready or if it is ready it is off temperature. Hot food is lukewarm and cold foods are too.

3. No staff for service and you have to set everything up yourself. This will take time away from your getting ready for the walk down the aisle.

4. You could run out of beverages, ice and the lines for self service could take forever.
