The Luck Of The Irish.

The Luck Of The Irish.

You can't fail to have noticed that today is Saint Patrick's Day. Yes the day where we traditionally celebrate all things Irish... leprechauns and Guinness and shamrocks and soda bread and celtic knots and all things green with bucketloads of revelry and a healthy amount of drink.

It seemed only fitting then to pay homage and create a moodboard inspired by...yep you guessed it...all things of the mint and emerald and granny smith apple variety. That's green in case you hadn't guessed already...

We have everything you could possibly dream of in order to integrate this invigorating colour into your big day - from racing car green bouquets to beryl coloured maids dresses and mossy hued cakes.

Honestly you can't go far wrong. What is it they say about the luck of the Irish...?

Despite the popularity of the mint colour trend that reared its beautiful head about a year or so ago (which was often paired with poppy pink shades), green wedding themes tend to be overlooked by most brides and grooms. I'm not sure why this is exactly since the shade lends itself perfectly to weddings held in any season.

Cool enough for Summer yet retaining the perfect pop of vibrancy for Winter soirees and the perfect backdrop for berry hues in Autumn, green themed weddings are particularly suited for Spring weddings because of all that fresh growth in the trees and hedgerows.

If you're looking for a starting point to incorporate a green or in fact any colour scheme into your wedding day then can I suggest starting with your maids' outfits. I particularly love the ombre bridesmaids above - an effective way of introducing your chosen colour if you're not exactly a fan of colour blocking whilst simultaneously allowing you to cater for all skin tones and body shapes. Equally it's worth playing with different materials and textures too - you may have one of your girls in velvet, another in lace and a third in chiffon. All of them will look equally lush!

And for the man in your life. He doesn't have to make like Robin Hood and go head to toe in forest green. Why not opt for stylish accessories such as a teal bow tie and braces or perhaps a dark green smoking jacket for the evening reception.

Set the (colour) tone for the wedding by opting for verdant wedding stationery - I particularly love this example above complete with the floral inserts inside the envelope - small details like this make my heart sing and will make your guests smile too. Carry the theme through to your place names, table plans and menus by using the same motifs for consistency.

I've included a couple of examples of cakes above - one of which is iced in the softest apple green and topped off with the sweetest pink roses and the other is a simple single tiered buttercream creation - to show you that you have plenty of options when it comes to colour theming each and every part of your wedding. Don't feel that you have to slather every detail in the hue of your choosing - sometimes a carefully placed ribbon, cake topper or touch of floral decor is the perfect nod to your theme without going overboard.

Whilst I'm a sucker for pretty much any bloom going, there's an innate beauty in simple foliage. A clutch full of ferns, a bunch of eucalyptus or even a wreath of laurel. If you love the idea of introducing foliage into your big day but aren't quite sure that leaves will be enough for you then choosing something such as Queen Anne's lace or flowering privet (which smells AMAZING) is a wonderful compromise.

So then have we inspired you to go green for your wedding day?

Will you be celebrating St Patricks Day in style tonight?

Stay tuned for a completely 'green' destination wedding later this week where the bride and groom hosted an eco-friendly and vegan big day. It looks immense.

All my love Lolly xxx
