Ask The Experts - Mr & Mrs Smith on European Honeymoons

via

After the success of our last honeymoon based Ask The Experts, in which travel experts Mr & Mrs Smith were on hand to answer your general honeymoon questions, we've invited them back. And this time we are getting specific! If you missed the last feature you can read it here.

In this Ask The Experts feature we will be looking exclusively at European holiday and honeymoon destinations. Baiba will be on-line this morning and over lunchtime to answer any questions you may have regarding planning your European trip of a lifetime. Baiba is senior travel consultant and honeymoon expert at Mr & Mrs Smith so she certainly knows her stuff.

No question is too tricky so put your holiday thinking hats on!

Andalucia, Spain

I love the south of Spain, and it's the perfect place for a European honeymoon - there are lots beautiful boutique hotels to hole up in. One of my all-time favourites is Palacio de Villapanés Almasevilla, a converted 18th-century palace in the heart of Seville. The suites are majestic, with floor-to-ceiling windows. I think three or four nights in Seville is perfect: there are lots of lovely day trips to do in the area - sherry tasting, for instance. I'd recommend then heading into the countryside and spending a few nights at Hacienda de San Rafael - it's beautifully renovated, with elegant gardens and three outdoor pools.

South of France

This area is hard to beat - and it's not just about the Côte d'Azur. La Maison sur la Sorgue is a really romantic hideaway not far from Avignon; there are only four rooms, and I really love it. There's so much soul. There's a beautiful day trip you can do, too, to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse where there's a stunning waterfall. Spend a couple of nights there before heading to Domaine de Verchant for beautiful sunsets and wonderful vineyards. Interiors are a real contrast here - rooms are striking and modern while the building itself is a mansion from the 14th century. It has the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in!

And if you want to end your trip in a really outstanding, classically beautiful hotel, you can't beat Cap Estel on the Côte d'Azur - the rooms, the pool, and the views are all simply spectacular.

Verona and Lake Garda, Italy

A beautiful part of Italy with some wonderful hotels is the north east. Start in Verona and stay at Palazzo Victoria with its award-winning restaurant: it's a converted castle with huge open spaces, and the interior design is sumptuous but not overdone. Flights to Verona are great value, too, so it's a good spot to choose if you want to save on travel and splurge on hotels. Spend a couple of nights there then head to Lido Palace on Lake Garda: interiors are grand but minimalist, with the whole focus on the view outside. It's divine!
