Dick Titus and Zeek Taylor, who became the first gay male couple to tie the knot in Arkansas over the weekend, described their "roller coaster ride"-like experience in an interview on HuffPost Live this week.

"We've been together for 42 years, and we had talked about going to another state to get married just because of the legal parts of it," Titus, 65, said. "Honestly I didn't think it was going to happen in my lifetime in Arkansas."

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza struck down the state's voter-approved same-sex marriage ban on May 9, saying the state has "no rational reason" for preventing lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) couples from marrying, the Associated Press reported.

Still, the future of same-sex marriage in Arkansas remains in question, as Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has reportedly vowed to ask the state's Supreme Court to review the decision to overturn the ban.

Nonetheless, Taylor, 67, said he and Titus plan to "continue the fight" for marriage equality.

"We have every right -- a civil right -- to have the same rights as everyone that's in the U.S.," he said. "We are married today, and we want to stay married."
