I love featuring fun loving happy couples and Nia and Richard are one super loved up bride and groom who married on the 10 August 2013 in London city. They had a town hall ceremony followed by canal boat ride and a party at the London Canal Museum.

They added their own DIY touches, with home made bunting, gingham table cloths and picnic food, YUM!

Nia looked gorgeous in a dress by Hobbs with a perfect beehive up do and gypsophila bouquet, while Richard donned a tweed burgundy suit. Their sweet son was their ring bearer who wore a hounds tooth suit and converse. So sweet!

THE PROPOSAL | Chatting over toast one morning, after we'd been together 8 years already. Then we put it on hold for another 3 years to have a baby...

THE VISION | A fun and relaxed day for our friends and family. The main pillars were: tasty food, live music, plenty of booze, nothing formal.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Nia brought the ideas and did the research. Richard put the plan into action, and managed both the budget and Nia's expectations.

BUDGET | Fairly cheap and cheerful. We tried to involve our friends and family as much as we could.

THE VENUE | Ceremony with family at Islington Town Hall. Lunch with family at a small restaurant in Islington. Chartered canal boat with 70 friends and family from Camden to the reception venue. Reception at the London Canal Museum. We wanted somewhere that would let us to organise everything (food, booze, music) ourselves without having to compromise. This is a lovely and quirky venue in central London which gave us the freedom to plan things in exactly the way we wanted them.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | A bit of a last minute panic when the dress the Nia was having made based on a 1960s pattern didn't work out as planned. Tears and mild panic ensued. A fortnight before the wedding she saw a dress in the window of Hobbs and was drawn to it. Turns out it was perfect.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Tailor made burgundy tweed suit from the fantastic Beggars Run.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | No readings at the ceremony. We didn't want to have any speeches but we figured as most people weren't at the ceremony we should have some focal point. This soon ballooned into six speeches: both bride and groom; three parents; a collective of different friends.

Recorded music at the ceremony was by Nia's mum's choir, Amabile. Down and dirty savage swamp infested blues from the amazing Congo Faith Healers in the evening. Then DJ-ed hip-hop and drum & bass to round out the evening.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | None. Though we did have our beautiful 20 month old son as the ring-bearer, decked out in a houndstooth suit with red Converse.

THE FLOWERS | Our friend Sophie is a trained florist with a very stylish eye. We had wild flowers in jars with yellow, blues and greens as colours. Nia's bouquet was a ball of gypsophelia.

THE CAKE | Our friend Katie is a fantastic cook. She baked a truly amazing three tired cake. As Richard is a vegan, the top tier was vegan margarita.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We found the wonderful Pui through a wedding website. She was so much fun to have around and mingled well with our guests which made her photos turn out great.

THE DETAILS & DECOR | DIY. Richard's mum is a dab hand with a sewing machine, so she sewed us miles of bunting from some of our old clothes. We bought fairy lights from Ebay and wound them round the roof beams. The canal museum itself has lots of interesting canal paraphernalia, which added to the vibe. We sourced gingham tablecloths from Ebay and had picnic food from Sourced Market (pork pies and scotch eggs, charcuterie, nice cheeses, salads, chocolate brownies, strawberries, lemonade). Our friend Phil (a graphic designer) made our invites and we stole detail from these to make a stamp which we used on everything from the place settings to the favours. We made some origami boats for the table plan.

THE HONEYMOON | Two nights in a secluded yurt and some hiking in a remote part of the Brecon Beacons, then a week in Sicily.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The sunny Prosecco-fuelled boat ride through Camden with our best friends and family. Heartfelt and hilarious speeches. Rinsing drum and bass to end the evening.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do what feels right for you. Don't bow to pressure from family or conventions. Delegate!
