Bohemian Colourful Humanist Seaside Yurt Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

It's time to get into the holiday summer sun shining mood today with WWW readers Ruth and Mark's wedding.

Ruth and Mark wanted a bohemian colourful Moroccan feel to their wedding day, holding a humanist ceremony on the beach followed by a yurt reception. Much of their day was home made and coordinated by their loved ones. There was multicoloured bunting, blooms and details galore.

Ruth and Mark both looked uber stylish as did the bridesmaids in watercolour dresses. Oh YES.

Thanks goes to David Stubbs Photography for sharing these brilliant photographs with us here at WWW.

THE PROPOSAL | Mark proposed to Ruth on New Years Eve in Edinburgh Hogmanay festival on New Years Eve. (In a camper van)

THE VISION | Bohemian, seaside, Moroccan, colourful, festival feel, informal.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Planning process centred on organising the venue and the yurt. Everything else was then planned to fit the venue or the yurt. All the setting up was done in the 2 days before the wedding as the yurt was coming from Somerset.

THE VENUE | Anglesey Outdoor Centre. We thought it was a perfect location as it was 10 minutes walk from the beach. Being a youth hostel type place meant that it could accommodate around 50 people. We hired the entire sit which included the building, the 3 camping yurts, a couple of wooden cabins and the camping field (where we set the yurt up).

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | A friend recommended Claire Mischevani, a local bespoke wedding dress designer in Shrewsbury. My shoes were LK Bennett. I wore my pearl earrings and necklace which mark had proposed to me with, I had my engagement ring made the same as my pearl neck lace.

FINDING THE DRESS | I had a vision of what I wanted and made a pinterest board to show Claire.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Blue suit bought from Reiss with grey waistcoat and red dicky bow tie.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had 2 readings during the ceremony. Mark's Auntie Cherry read a self written poem about the bride and groom. Ruth's friend Megan read a poem.

The humanist read a quote from Bob Marley and Dr Zeuss.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Ruth had 8 bridesmaids all wearing blue water colour Jigsaw dresses.

THE FLOWERS | Mark's mother sourced and arranged all the flowers from tall grasses, to sunflowers and hydrangeas.

THE CAKE | Mark's mother made and decorated the cake.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | David Stubbs produced some amazing pictures of the day, capturing all the special moments and character of the day.

THE DETAILS & DECOR | Mark's mother put together all the table centres. Before the wedding we collected lots of coloured glass and metal vases, candle holders and random vessels. These were assembled with flowers and candles so every table was slightly different. Mark's mother also made red, blue, pink and gold bunting for inside the yurt. We also wrapped the uprights of the yurt with vines. We put together our own personalised DJ booth with a Dr Suess quote which was also read out at the wedding. We had a small yurt outside which contained the bar which a friend has organised. This was made to look like a Moroccan bar. We filled the entrance of the yurt with loads of plants and flowers. This was where the table plan was. We also had a theme of ducks for some reason? All the table names were written on cardboard cut-out ducks. The place names were written on pebbles collected from North Wales beaches.

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Oman for 4 nights. We stayed at Six Senses resort Zighy Bay.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Finding out the weather was going to be fine. Then finding out it was going to be good enough to have the ceremony on the beach and then having the most amazing party with our friend and family till the early hours.

Realising all our plans had come together and that everything had worked!

Finding out our band were excellent and everyone dancing together in the yurt.

Seeing our photos.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | When embarking on a 'do it yourself' wedding, make sure you budget carefully. We thought that it would be less expensive than a regular wedding but probably come out more. Because we didn't budget carefully the costs increased quite a bit towards the big day.
