DIY Toronto Wedding

DIY Toronto Wedding

Carrie and Jonathan met at a music festival in Trinity Bellwoods park and have since spent their best times together enjoying nature and music. That being said, Evergreen Brickworks was the perfect setting to celebrate their loves and each-other.

A definite must see for organic style diy details. You can see every last detail of this DIY Toronto wedding in the full gallery here, all wonderfully photographed by Mango Studios.

Carrie's background is South African so it was important to add ethnic elements wherever possible, including an earthy color palette of dusty dark grey, cream, and papaya, and raw and natural fabrics.

Our attire was specially designed for the occasion. Jonathan had Sydney's Suits create a dark grey vintage style suit, while I had designer Zaneesha Gowrali create a layered cotton gown based on my desire to "look like I was getting married on a farm, in the South, in the 1800's". Our pioneer style was perfectly topped off with the copper acorn I wore around my neck which contains love notes from Jonathan. Our handmade chuppah was created using old cedar posts found on the side of the road in Creemore, Ontario, which were sanded down, painted with bold stripes and draped with a cream-colored burlap canopy. Raw cotton table cloths and wooden chairs were the base for our table settings, which I then added handmade linen runners. We spray painted clear milk bottles cream and wrapped them in hand-sewn fabric sleeves of burlap and papaya fabric. Our florist (Sweet Woodruff) added greenery to each bottle as well as succulent filled boxes to each table. The table numbers consisted of hand-painted poles with stiff canvas fabric for the flags. Our escort cards were simply miniature versions of the table numbers where I cut and painted miniature sticks and glued them to personalized paper flags. The tiny sticks were held up by a large piece of wood, which we painted and drilled to create holes. As a surprise, Jonathan commissioned a painting of a giant acorn in our wedding colors as a symbol of our first encounter in the park. Incorporated into the side of the acorn is a silhouette of the two of us, while the bottom corner boasts a family crest Jonathan created of all the things we hold close to our hearts. We chose Dwayne Gretzky to perform during the reception and had DJ Lucie Tic play during the ceremony, band breaks, and late night party. We filled the wedding with all of our favorite songs, and Jonathan even did a surprise performance with Dwayne Gretzy to Bruce Springsteen's Promised Land!
