Homely & Relaxed Rustic Sunflower Filled Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Amy and Matt tied the knot on the 10 th May 2014, holding their relaxed and rustic reception at Cranford Hall, Northamptonshire. It was important to them that their wedding was homely and informal with fun and laughter.

They also wanted to craft the décor and details themselves, with pretty hessian and log touches throughout. I so love the vibrant sunflowers, fun bouncy castle and super stylish attire. Oh so gorgeous.

Thanks so much to the utterly brilliant Babb Photo for these images today. LOVE.

THE PROPOSAL | Ah.... on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York at sunset. We were there with 3 of my bridesmaids and Matt's best man and as we got to the main arch Matt got down on one knee, I said yes and our friends popped out taking pictures and with bottles of champagne! Oooh and Matt had Stevie Wonder 'You are the sunshine of my Life' playing from his backpack. It was awesome!!

THE VISION | We wanted a homely feel, relaxed and informal, full of fun and laughter! We also wanted to make everything, make it very personal.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | It was almost 2 years but due to us having to postpone from September 2013 to this year - we got a rather pleasant surprise last April.... we were expecting our second child! I therefore had 5 months after our son, Jesse arrived and I had 5 months of full on planning, I loved every second. Matt was involved a lot too, he designed the reception room and made everything you see!

THE VENUE | St James the Apostle Church in Grafton Underwood, Northamptonshire (Amy grew up there). Cranford Hall, Cranford, Northamptonshire for the reception.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was by Augusta Jones (purchased from Serendipity in Weedon, Northants), headband was Jenny Packham and shoes were Jimmy Choo. Pearl bracelet and earrings from Tiffany.

FINDING THE DRESS | It was the 4 th appointment I had been to, with my mum, sister and best friend in tow. We did two appointments per day with a nice lunch in-between. I picked it to try on even though I wasn't that keen on it because I had tried on one similar and liked the style and neckline on me - I adored it as soon as I saw it on and purchased that day! I knew I wanted lace and something slightly fitted from day 1.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | We wanted something smart but casual and a country kind of feel - you just can't get the look we wanted so we put it together ourselves... lots of ordering online from places like ASOS, sending lots of things back until we found what we wanted. So happy with the results!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Readings were Corinthians 13, read by Amy's godmother and The Beauty of Love by anon read by Lucy, one of my bridesmaid and oldest friends.

I walked down the aisle to The Waterboys acoustic version of 'How long will I love you' (Ellie Goulding's version is great but it wasn't us and didn't feel right)

When the registers we signed we played Led Zeppelin - Thank You.

We walked out to Johnny Cash - Memories are made of this. Our wedding invites were slightly different, we made a video on our phones which told a story and had this track playing over it. We had a picture of the church and our proposal, the children and our dog in it, it was great fun to do - all our guests loved it!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 5 and a flower girl, my sister Laura, and my friends Carrie, Lucy, Nem (aka Emily), Lizzie and Lizzie's daughter Layla. They wore Dessy dresses in mint and kiwi - I picked the colours but said they could pick whatever style they wanted. It was important that they were all comfortable and felt beautiful.... it just so happened they all picked over the shoulder dresses! Layla's dress is from BHS, I wanted her to be in cream like me.

The little boys - we put their outfits together ourselves too.

THE FLOWERS | Sunflowers, white roses and lavender bouquets with white rose and lavender buttonholes. I know sunflowers are out of season in May but they were my Nan's flower and it was important to me to honour her. We were very close. The sunflowers were the perfect finishing touch to our reception room decorations. Done by Green Room Flowers in Northampton.

THE CAKE | We had actual cheese as our cake. Cheese was from St Giles Cheese, Northampton. Best Red Leicester I have tasted, cost a third of the price of a wedding cake and our guests loved it!!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We didn't want the classic wedding photography, we wanted to be with our guests, relaxed and enjoying the party not standing around having pictures for 2 hours so Babb Photo was our choice - Laura and Alice were amazing, half the time I didn't know they were there, I would recommend to anyone! The pictures speak for themselves!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We didn't want to have a toast in the speeches to those that couldn't be with us as we wanted everything to be light hearted and happy so in order to honour our grandparents we had a small table in the church as people walked in with candles and photographs of them.

We had a mix of jars with tealights in an rose petals down the aisle which our vicar kept knocking over!

We picked our venue so that we could decorate as we wanted, Matt made the centrepieces, the love sign and tree trunk vases with love heart on, the hot dog stand. Our table names were titles of songs we love. Matt and his 2 friends were at the venue from 8am until 8pm on the FRIDAY hanging hessian drapes and putting the lights up (matt also made these, his friend wired them all up).

THE HONEYMOON | We are off to New York, Chicago and Boston in September!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Hearing the church bells just before I put my dress on, walking to the church from my parents house with my dad and best friends, Matt seeing Amy for the first time, our vicar cracking jokes throughout the service, Our guests taking the centrepieces, vases etc that Matt had made home! The last one would be the reaction to our band, they are our friends band, Mustash, they play country music so we were little worried what people would think - the dance floor was full all night!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Stick to what you want - it's YOUR day and you only get it once. We kept all of our ideas to ourselves because some of ours weren't traditional and people like to have an opinion when you don't really want it. Take your time to look around the room every hour, seeing your guests having a great day gives you great memories and satisfaction!
