DIY | FLOWER CROWN - The Wedding Assistant

via

I recently spent the afternoon with the lovely Wendy Irene (now newly engaged!) from SomethingIndie to try our hand at making flower crowns from fresh flowers.

This was our first attempt and no matter what Pinterest says, it isn't the easiest thing to do. If you are making your own flower crown for your wedding I recommend practising with different flowers as some are easier to deal with than others.

Here is how we did ours...

Our mixed colours crown Our Babies Breath crown

  1. Cut selected flowers 10cm from the head.
  2. Using a toothpick, poke a hole 3-4 finger spaces from the head.
  3. Feed the next flower through the hole.
  4. Continue to do this until you have enough to go around your head.
  5. We then started securing the chain with cross stitch cotton, as it is strong and less fiddly.
  6. To finish it off we added ribbon at each end to act as a tie for the crown.

  1. Cut the Babies Breath at different lengths of 10-15cm.
  2. Instead of threading these through each other like our previous crown, bunch the pieces and tie together with cross stitch cotton.
  3. Once the crown is long enough to go around your head join the two ends and secure with cross stitch cotton. You can also leave it open and then secure it onto your head with hair clips.
Due to the nature of Babies Breath, you can have the crown fuller or you can tame it down. We used gold embroidery thread to tame them down and add a bit of colour and sparkle.

Go forth and make your own. You've got the instructions.
