#169: Mid-Century Modern

Written by: louise

I'm a sucker for mid-century furniture, it inspired me throughout my design degree and you'll see influences of mid-century style throughout my styling work. My ply-based Eames dining chairs are my favourite ever purchase! This 1950′s design movement was characterised by clean simplicity and an integration with nature, so it's easily translated into the world of weddings with bold graphics, rich jewel colours and plenty of polished timber furniture. I think it's perfect for an Autumnal celebration, the warm colours are so inviting and welcoming and contrasts perfectly with the golden landscape of the season.

Furniture is key, think chintzy styles contrasted with sleek button back sofas in tweedy fabrics and mid-century design classics from Eames, Saarinen and Bertoia mixed with ply and mahogany tables. Of course a bar cart is a must for Mad Men-style cocktails! This style of furniture is available to hire in the UK from suppliers like Inspire Hire, just ask if they don't have exactly what you're after! Add rich plum coloured florals, a 50′s prom-style wedding dress with birdcage veil, retro-inspired stationery and some cheeky signage, and you've got it covered!
