Tricks to Get Perfectly Straight Hair (for ALL Hair Types)

Okay, who else is kind of impressed by the longevity of the pin-straight hair look? We're not exactly sure when, but in recent years, this hairstyle went from trend to timeless. And rightfully so - this sleek style seems to look fabulous on everyone. While this look may have stood the test of time, it's safe to say our methods for achieving straightness haven't. Gone are the days of running an actual clothing iron over those locks (although, who are we to judge those dedicated to their craft?). There are far better straightening tricks we've learned along the way, and we're giving you the skinny on them now!

Get smart with your straightening tools. Sure, you're beyond familiar with your trusty flat iron by now, but are you using it the right way? As with all heat styling tools, get it right by applying heat protectants as well as spritzing some setting spray on those locks - trust us, it makes a huge difference in keeping straight hair straight while minimizing damage.

Wrap it up. This throwback hair trick is still a tried-and-true straightening method for many a girl, regardless of hair type. While damp (or, for those with curly, more textured hair, after blow drying as straight as possible), section hair off and wrap around the crown, securing each piece with a bobby pin. Use a headscarf to protect it while you sleep on your hairstyle, and wake up to sleek tresses - once you pull out all the pins, of course.

Mix up a smoothing concoction infused with coconut milk. There's a reason coconut is a main ingredient in so many hair masks and treatments: With vitamins C, B6, & E (to name a few), crucial minerals, and antioxidant properties, this natural source conditions hair, smooths frizz and even promotes hair growth. Mix coconut milk with a few drops of lemon juice, apply it to your locks and comb it through with your fingers so that it's evenly distributed. Wrap your hair in a towel for 15 to 20 minutes before shampooing and beginning your straightening process.

If the DIY method isn't your thing, there are more than enough hair products out there to aid your quest for straighter-than-straight strands. Our weapon of choice? Hair oils. A hair oil can lock in moisture and nourish your locks, so you're protected from damage, frizz and over-drying.
