Fall Wedding Desserts

Fall Wedding Desserts

Fall is most definitely here. A crispness in the air, pumpkin spice lattes, and kids talking about their costumes all seem to herald the changing of the season. Well, that and an unexplainable (and frankly shameful) craving for candy corn. So today seemed like the perfect time to chat about fall wedding cakes and other yummy treats. From traditional cakes covered in leaves (above) to less conventional ideas, this round-up of autumnal goodies is sure to inspire some tasty decisions about your own fall wedding dessert.

Cakes

Now that summer is over, there is a decided shift from lighter flavors like citrus or vanilla to rich chocolates and spicy gingerbreads. There's no reason why that buttercream cake has to hide vanilla beneath. Embrace the season with a devil's food or carrot cake. You can still use traditional decor, and the taste will be an appreciated nod to the season.

In fact, why not serve an assortment of cakes? There's something really nostalgic and autumnal about a cake buffet (could be because its reminiscent of those cake walks during Halloween carnivals). Fill the table with your favorite flavors, as well as some more unique choices incorporating seasonal ingredients, such as fig or apple.

Pies

Nothing is better than a pumpkin pie. Except maybe pecan. Or apple. Perhaps even chocolate cream. You get my drift. Make your dessert table a tiny version of the best part of Thanksgiving dinner with a tower of mini-pies in a myriad of fall flavors (below).

Or like the fun next door neighbor on Halloween, ditch the snack size and serve full size treats. You can create a pie buffet quite easily, and it looks great in a rustic-themed wedding.

Donuts

This trend is really taking off. Donuts either instead of wedding cake or as a late night snack is a fun way to greet the earlier sunsets during fall. Serve cinnamon-sugar dusted donuts alongside piping-hot cups of coffee to make the evening a little less chilly! You can also wrap donuts in Kraft paper bags and send them home with guests for a little dose of morning happy the next day.

Caramel Apples

Who doesn't love a gooey caramel apple? Admittedly, these aren't the friendliest of treats when it comes to eating them in public (can anyone look pretty for that first bite?). Just make sure to have knives or apple slicers on hand to make tasting just a bit easier. Or turn this confection into your favor!

Croquembouche

This tower of cream puffs drizzled with caramel and covered in spun sugar just screams fall wedding dessert. This sweet is not only delicious to eat, but it is also pretty magnificent to look at. Your guests will be talking about this spectacular treat for years to come.
