A Week of Heat-Free Hairstyling: How We Did It

via

We girls have a love-hate relationship with heat. We know it's terrible for our hair, yet we need it to make our locks buoyantly beautiful, perfectly curly or sleek and straight. Team MDC did some thinking and wanted to see if we could make it a whole week without touching a heat-styling tool. Want to see how we tackled this challenge? Check out the seven no-heat hairstyles that got us through the week!

DAY 1: Natural Locks
We're starting off this heat-free challenge with light and breezy hair that takes little to no time to put together. It also requires allowing your hair to dry sans blowdryer. Without the help of tools, drying hair can be a catastrophe. For flawless, natural hair, it's important to apply the right smoothing solution to your mane while it's still damp (we love Kérastase Elixir Ultime). This will keep frizz at bay and allow your hair to look its best in its natural state. MDC Quick Tip: To really wow with your au naturel look, top it off with a sassy hat before you walk out the door.

Day 2: So Frenchy
For Day 2, we decided to muss up the tried-and-true French braid by adding a little texturizing powder or spray like Garnier De-Constructed Texture Tease to the hair prior to braiding. After the hair is braided, pull at the hair to loosen the style, and pull out a few strands in the front to give it a messy-but-chic look.

Day 3: Ballerina Babe
Why should dancers have all the fun? This sleek updo will take you from work to a swanky dinner - without a hair getting out of place! It also takes under a minute to assemble. You just have to spritz some hairspray on the bun and you're good to go! Yes, please!

Day 4: Chic Chignon
Get a little fancy with this perfectly imperfect bun. Just tease, wrap and pin and you're ready for anything from dinner with the girls to a garden wedding.

Day 5: Alternative Braid
Flip the standard French braid on its head, and you've got quite the trendy 'do on your hands. All you have to do to make this look happen is flip your hair upside down and start French braiding at the nape of the neck. Keep going until you've braided all of your hair. Wrap the braid into a top knot and secure it with some bobby pins. Voila! Instant pretty!

Day 6: Plush Pony
Want to upgrade that basic pony? Double up! This quick and easy trick delivers a fuller, longer pony that will have heads turning all day long.

Day 7: Go Halfsies
We love, love, love this simple-yet-sassy half updo. Just grab two side pieces from the front of the head and twist them back. Cross them over each other and hold down the place where they overlap with one hand. Secure the overlap section with three bobby pins by creating a triangle. For an extra-fun spin on this look, use sparkly or decked-out bobby pins!
