Homely DIY Yellow & Grey Graphic Wedding

Homely DIY Yellow & Grey Graphic Wedding

via

So this afternoon's wedding includes Lego, graphics and converse, which are three of my favourite things. Sounds great right?

Jess and Ryan tied the knot on the 19th July 2014 and decided on a homely marquee wedding reception. They wanted a real DIY affair, with graphic designer Jess designing the fun stationery, flowers arranged by loved ones and home-made bunting.

I adore the yellow and grey colour scheme, Jess' lace gown teamed with converse and the VW camper.

Thanks so very much to the brilliant Gemma Lawrence for sharing these photographs.

THE PROPOSAL | December 2011 - which included the response of 'what the +*$? are you doing!!!' - the same day that we got the keys to our very first house together!

THE VISION | Relaxed, fun, lots of laughter, vintage, homely... just generally a beautiful day for all to share. Very much gave the day our own stamp with many elements we created or made ourselves, being a graphic designer gave me an advantage. The invites, the table numbers, the table plan, table centres, the flowers and hundreds of metres of bunting were created ourselves. It was a very DIY wedding.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Amazing, loved every minute of it.

THE VENUE | We married at St Johns Church Danbury, followed by a marquee reception in my Mum and Dads garden. Was very personal, beautiful and simply perfect.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Beautiful vintage ivory St Patrick dress from Adore Bridal, Chelmsford. Lace with lots of layers creating the vintage look I wanted. Along with some grey converse (I'm a massive converse fan and they were my something old!) and yellow laces to finish off the look!!! Super comfy...

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Moss Bros - Grey wedding suit with yellow accessories and some very unique lego cufflinks (a massive lego fan!) and Mr Awesome socks added a finishing touch!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Hymns - One more step along the way I go and Lord of all Hopefulness.

First Dance - Jack Johnson - Better Together.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The adults dresses made to fit and carried on the colour scheme they were grey and yellow and designed by ourselves to create a vintage tea party look. The little ones were Jenny Packham dresses embroidered with silver and grey beads, again these were very vintage in style and quite unusual to find little peoples dresses in grey! They all looked so beautiful.

THE FLOWERS | All done by close family members/friends, it was a proper team effort! Thank you flower ladies!!!

THE CAKE | Marks and Spencer's plain cakes and decorated ourselves with a magic Lego touch!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Gemma Lawrence - super cool, super relaxed, super duper!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Bunting, bunting and more bunting! Lots of personal touches with photos, messages, favours, memories. We particularly wanted to remember those who are no longer with us and had their photos out with a lit candle.

THE HONEYMOON | New York! Simply amazing!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | So many to recall that made it the best day of our lives. To see all our family and friends having as much fun and laughter as we did.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | The day goes so quickly, there are parts we don't even remember. You have to try and stop and almost take a polaroid in your mind to capture the moments that you'll never forget. And most importantly just enjoy every minute of it!
