Wedding Dresses Through The Decades

Wedding Dresses Through The Decades

via

As you know, we're budding history buffs! Well, once we're talking about weddings.

So we just loved this fun (and a little educational) infographic from Dublin-based ring search website, Perfect Ring, which takes a look at how wedding dresses have evolved over the last 30 years.

Last week we talked about how celebrity weddings can inspire a generation of brides, from Princess Diana's poofy sleeves and long train of the 80s, to Carolyn Bessette's slinky spaghetti strap gown of the 90s.

Even Kate Middleton's 2011 dress, inspired thousands of brides with long lace sleeves.

As for the wedding dresses of the moment, the long lace sleeve is still as coveted as ever, ballgowns are still big, strapless dresses are still popular, and bohemian and vintage styles are still massively stylish.

But when it comes to some of the the most exciting designers, most pinned dresses, and most fashion forward brides, this decade is all about figure hugging shapes, low backs and exquisite detailing.

So let's take a look at the styles that got us to where we are now...

Isn't it cool? I love the high collar of a 1900s dress, and short 50s and 60s dresses seem to never go out of style. What's your favourite era of wedding dress style?

(Let's hope the 80s doesn't make a comeback though, right?!)

Thanks so much to Perfect Ring for sharing their fun graphic with us.
