5 Secrets for a Scent-sational Evening Out

5 Secrets for a Scent-sational Evening Out

There's nothing more annoying than generously spritzing yourself with your favorite perfume, only to have it wear off in what seems like seconds. Or spraying just a little on your wrists, and unintentionally offending every person you come in contact with. If you're all too familiar with these aroma issues, try the following five tricks. They'll boost your perfume potential without overwhelming everyone in sight.

1. Moisturize.

One of the best ways to give your scent staying power is to apply perfume to freshly moisturized skin. Try spritzing yourself when you get out of the shower, after slathering yourself in a fragrance-free body lotion. You can also apply a lightweight face cream, like L'Oréal Paris RevitaLift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer, to your neck and let it soak up and seal in your favorite fragrance. (Bonus: You'll be warding off wrinkles at the same time!)

2. Don't Do the Walk-Through.

Not only is this method wasteful, but it can also stain your clothes. And it does next to nothing to make your scent last longer, as very little of the perfume actually comes in contact with your skin.

3. Spritz Your Hair Instead.

This method increases staying power and creates a sweet-but-subtle fragrance that trails behind you. Spray a light mist above your head or onto your hairbrush. A citrusy scent like Maison Martin Margiela (Untitled) L'Eau is perfect for turning heads with a fresh hint of fragrance.

4. Layer Your Signature Scent.

If you have one perfume that you (and others) really love, invest in scented skincare from the entire line. This will make your favorite fragrance last a long time and will have you smelling great from head to toe. Try pairing YSL Paris Perfumed Bath and Shower Gel with YSL Paris Eau de Toilette Spray, or prep your body with Giorgio Armani Si Body Lotion before spritzing a light mist of the brand's Si Eau de Parfum.

5. Use Those Pulse Points.

Applying perfume to pulse points really does amp up a fragrance. Blood vessels are closest to the skin in these areas - namely behind the ears and knees, and along the inner elbow, wrists and neck. They emanate heat frequently, intensifying any perfume resting there. Just make sure you don't go overboard. Pick two pulse points at a time, and don't apply too much. If you feel you need a touch up after a few hours, carry a portable perfume with you, like Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance Rollerball.
