The Bride Diaries. Holly's Cosy Autumn Engagement

The week draws to a close and what better way to end it than with a set of loved up images? WWW real bride Holly shares the gorgeous pictures from her engagement shoot with Jim. A warm welcome to Jim too, it's lovely to hear his perspective on the blog this afternoon. Thanks so much to Julie Michaelsen for sharing her images today XOXO Lou

Holly says: Jim and I were incredibly lucky to win an engagement shoot with London based photographer Julie Michaelsen after taking a selfie of ourselves at her stall at the Brides the Show wedding fayre (which incidentally, we'd also won the tickets for!). We didn't have an engagement shoot as part of our wedding photography package and it wasn't an additional item we felt we could afford so it was a real treat and was definitely worthwhile!

It's fair to say we were both quite nervous, and didn't really know what to expect (and I spent an embarrassing amount of time worrying about what to wear!) but Julie was fantastic at putting us at ease and took a mixture of posed and relaxed shots which meant we have a lovely array of photos as a result.

Two of the most memorable moments from the shoot included getting told off by two Policemen for standing in a fenced off area (whoops - the lengths you go to for that perfect background!), and Jim making me laugh in a shot where we had our faces very close together by saying "I can smell your make up... it smells like clay."

Just as Real Bride Katy has said about her own engagement shoot; it was great practice and preparation for our wedding day! One thing we've learned is that Jim finds it very difficult to smile on demand. I'm hoping he'll be so overjoyed on our wedding day that he won't even need to think about smiling as it'll just come naturally, but I'm already thinking up things I can say to make him genuinely laugh or smile. Jim makes me laugh pretty much 24/7 in real life so it'll be nice for the roles to be reversed for a change!

Jim says: I knew the trip to London would be a fun-filled venture. I always like little trips to London, they're mostly or I should say exclusively with Holly.

Holly was concerned about what to wear days before and was mulling it over and over before the engagement shoot. This was an easier task for me has I have less clothes to choose from. A pair of chords and my green gillet - job done. Oh, and get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water the night before.

Visits to London with Holly are usually like school trips of one (me) as she organises most of them. Holly has more experience of going back and forth to London than me so she knows the lay of the land. However, it was me who chose the location for our engagement photo shoot. St James' Park, (could have chosen Hyde Park or any of the others, what mattered was some greenery, leaves and twigs in the background). But this one share's my name and it's easy to find - just ask where the Queen's house is.

We spotted Julie, the photographer by one of those coffee cabins in the park. She had a nice leather satchel carrying her gear in one arm and a big multi coloured umbrella in the other. The brolly would serve as a nice prop for later as well as being practical, as it was forecast rain in the afternoon.

Julie came across as instantly likeable. She was friendly and put us both at ease. She had previously scouted the park to find some nice areas - that felt nice and organised, we would just do what she tells us to do.

Holly and I met my sister, Elizabeth in the park too. She had recently moved to London, so it was nice time to catch up with her. She looked after our bags during the shoot and behind Julie waving her arms and mouthing words of encouragement, or disapproval I couldn't tell. "Posture!" "Smile James, look animated." She said.

The weather was kind to us; we successfully circled the perimeter of the park doing various poses and performing actions, encountering the local wildlife, spectators and even law enforcement

On the way, a squirrel came right up to us trying to beg for food. He would have been in a photograph but Holly made a hitched pitched scream when she saw him, so he ran away, turned his little head to look back, then carried on to the next bunch of people.

It was a great experience working with Julie, Holly and my sister. I thoroughly recommend that you get in contact with Julie if you want some photos taken for a special occasion.
