Be Proud of your Family Story. A Tribute To My Nanny.

W meeting his Great Grandmother.

As I told you in the week, we suddenly lost my Nanny a few days before Christmas.

Today I wanted to dedicate some space to her and share what a wonderful woman she was with you all. A strong, hard-working family orientated woman.

My unusual surname comes from my wonderful Nanny and Granddad (who we also lost quite a few years back now). Their love story inspired and left me in wonder. I'd often ask my Nanny to tell me the story of how she met my Granddad and I am sure it contributed to me becoming the hopeless romantic I am.

You see my Grandad was German, he was captured and became a prisoner of war in England during World War Two. He ended up in the countryside working on a farm. This, as fate had it was near to where my Nanny lived amongst the rural farming community. Despite what I imagine would be prejudice and conflict, they fell in love. They married and lived in the same village for the rest of their lives. They were such an inspiration to me and will continue to be forever.

I am so proud of my name and where it comes from. I am asked where is it from pretty much every time someone new hears it. It literally is part of my identity.

Like many Grandparents they doted on us. We were so lucky growing up, my brother, sister and I were totally spoilt by them in every way. I didn't get to see my Nanny as much as I would have wanted as the years passed. But I am so happy she got to meet baby W and of course my big boy A. Thankfully I managed to remember to take the above photograph, the first time she met W and the last time I saw her.

I wanted to share their little story so that it doesn't get forgotten or lost.

Remember your family story. Share it. Be proud of it. Ask your loved ones about their lives and never forget. Wishing you a peaceful Sunday.

XOXO Lou
