Offbeat weddings are a recipe for pure no holds bar quirky fun. Marybeth Southard & Jason Moore filled their wedding day with delightful little treats that echo not just their interests but who they are to the core. Both English majors who hold a deep love for the world that novels create, the couple crafted a day with literary wedding details which set the tone for their loft style offbeat wedding. Paper flowers made of book pages were handmade serving as both centerpieces as well as bouquets while stacks of old novels perfectly complimented their paper flower friends. Guests were encourage to take home a book or two after the wedding, spreading Marybeth & Jason's love of reading with their guests. The couple's quirky personalities were reflected not just in their decor but their dress from a tea length wedding gown highlighting a bold purple petticoat to Jason's retro loving style bowler hat. All in all its hard to ignore the pure bliss these two enjoyed in this sweet little purple hued wedding!

Jason and I met during my freshman year of college at Bradley University. In January of 2008, we attended a party, and Jason (in his infinite wisdom and laziness) offered to be my best friend for seven whole years if I refilled his beer. I don't think he expected me to take this offer so seriously, but I thought this was a fantastic deal, so I took him up on it. We immediately became best friends (even calling each other "Best Friend") and started hanging out, going to concerts, and eating lunch in my dorm room together. The following June, we were having a going away party for a friend, and I thought it would be wildly romantic to steal some fake flowers from Portillo's for Jason. After a few days and several milkshakes later, Jason asked me to be his girlfriend. A little surprised, I said, "Sure," which might not have been the most eloquent answer, but it was the perfect start to our relationship. We dated for five years (and even dealt with long distance during grad school). Jason proposed in March of 2013 by giving me a copy of The Lord of the Rings that he craftily converted into a ring-box. Inside, he wrote, "Let's go on an adventure together," which perfectly sums us up.

Since we both studied English in college and graduate school and are huge book nerds, we had a whimsical, book-themed wedding. We designed our own library-themed invitations to start our story. Each centerpiece was a vase of handmade paper flowers from our favorite books. Thanks to help from the bridesmaids, we also used crafted these flowers to make the bouquets. One of the highlights was our guest book; well, really it was a guest bookshelf that all of the guests signed. Also, at the end of the night, all of the guests could take home a book as a gift from us, so we could share our love of reading. We were looking for a loft-like space that would be convenient to have both the wedding and the reception and that wouldn't break the bank. When we went to the Starline Factory, we were so impressed by the multiple spaces and how personalized we could make it. Though having a DIY space was a lot of work, we were able to truly make it feel like our own.

A Little Help From Their Friends ~ We had so much help every step of the way. The bridesmaids got together throughout the summer for craft days to make hundreds of book paper flowers. Then, on the Friday before the wedding, the bride's family and the entire bridal party helped set up the venue. The bride's dad was solely responsible for hanging the countless strands of lights, and it all came together beautifully.

Favorite Moments ~ There are two moments that were absolutely perfect, so they tied. The first would have to be our first look. We are both big Harry Potter fans (and we went there for the honeymoon), so the night before the wedding, one of my bridesmaids secretly worked with Jason to make a Hogwarts robe. During the first look, he came out in the robe, and I was SO surprised. To have such a sweet and goofy unplanned moment start our day off together was incredible. The other absolutely perfect moment was our first dance. We had just changed into our Converse (so my feet were no longer killing me), and we danced to "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." During the choruses, we both unexpectedly burst into song, and Jason swirled me around. It was like we were in our own little world.
