Modern DIY Projects for Weddings and Gifts

Modern DIY Projects for Weddings and Gifts

via

Although DIY often has a rustic or shabby chic reputation, many blogs today feature very modern projects. We've collected some of them here to inspire your own crafting. For many of them, you could use them as gifts for bridesmaids or you could use them as wedding decor (and then in your home later).

Planters and vases are such a wonderful DIY detail because they are often easy to create, but have an impactful effect on their setting. Above, this metallic geometric vase is simple enough to design with stickers, but would make quite a modern statement in a reception tablescape. Below, these planters house plants perfect for a Southwestern-themed wedding. Later, use them on your back patio or distribute them to green-thumbed relatives.

Bridal showers can also benefit from cheery DIY projects. Greet guests with a bunch of balloons dipped in gold confetti glitter tied to your mailbox or front door. Once inside, they will ooh and aah over this carnival ticket chandelier (below, left), that you may just end up displaying long after the party is over. As modern favors, give away cookies in festive boxes marked with different flavors (below, right).

As mentioned earlier, you can also use some of these projects to decorate your new home together. A parade of photos is hung from a metal rail in front of a dramatic wall above. And your mid-century modern taste can be put to good use while eating during a Netflix binge marathon with your new hubby (below, left). A celebratory "hip hip hooray" once used at your welcome table can take up permanent residence in a breakfast nook or hallway (below, right).

If you prefer to DIY just a little and you are also more of a beginner, you might want to stick to paper crafts (where the cost of trial and error is very low). Above, decorate your sweet table's cupcakes with black and white hugs and kisses. Below, these charming "diamond" napkin rings will have all of your friends asking how you made them at your bridesmaid luncheon.

Paint dipped details are still very popular at modern wedding receptions. Merge rustic with trendy by dipping pine cones in neon colors and using them as place or table card holders (below).
