Rustic Homely Fun & Creative Wedding - Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

via

Today's happy couple have been together since they were 11, how amazing is that? 16 years later they tied the knot, so you can only imagine the emotions and feelings involved in their wedding day.

WWW readers Matthew and Benita were married on the 20th September 2014 in Hertfordshire. They hoped for a rustic, homely, fun and creative wedding, and they achieved their vision by the bucket load.

There was so much personality poured into their home made quirky décor and details. The hall was transformed with festoon lighting, blackboard signs and pretty blooms.

Benita first spotted her wedding dress on WWW and it turned out to be the one. She sure did look beautiful in her fishtail number with her locks in the most stylish waves. So many smiles all round and a few happy tears :-)

Thanks goes to the wonderful On Love and Photography for sharing their photographs today.

THE PROPOSAL | Me and Matthew met when we were 11 years old at secondary school in the first week of term. From the age of 11 - 18 years old we were either dating or best friends. At 18 we started dating again and have never looked back. As a teenager I had probably dreamt of the way Matt would propose to me a million times. One day Matt told me our three best friends wanted to go away for the weekend to Suffolk to rent a cottage right by the coast. I never thought anything of it and I was looking forward to a weekend away. We booked a beautiful farm house and had activities planned for the whole weekend. We spent the first day riding bikes along the coast line which turned out to be one of the best days of my life. That night we were too tired to cook so we decided that two of us would pop out and get the group fish and chips. Matt nominated himself to go and then one by one the group made up an excuse of why they couldn't go with Matt. So that left me. We drove to Dunwich beach where Matt got out the car and asked me to walk with him to collect the fish and chips. We started walking along the beach and suddenly I realised Matt had slowed down. When I turned around he was on one knee. I stopped breathing and realised what was happening. I realised I had dreamt of this day since we were young and it was finally coming true. When we eventually drove back to the farm house our best friends had lined the drive with candles and had decorated the garden with balloons and candles. We spent the night outside celebrating, laughing and drinking. A night we will never forget.

THE VISION | To be true to us. Rustic, homely, fun and creative.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had help from both our families and without them we would have been lost. Everyone went above and beyond to help organise the wedding. Pinterest was our bible.

THE VENUE | Tewin Memorial Hall, Hertfordshire.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My wedding dress was a simple fishtail lace dress with a sweetheart neck. I wanted a timeless dress that suited my height. My shoes were by L.K. Bennett which were a soft blush pink. My veil was hand made by my mother in law. Which was one of my favourite things as well as my diamond earrings given to me by my family.

FINDING THE DRESS | I booked an appointment at a large bridal shop in London and took my sisters, mum and mother in law and 3 best friends. I briefed myself with the idea to be open to every style of wedding dress. I tried on so many dresses and slowly we eliminated the dresses that didn't suit my body type. By the end of the session I worked out a fishtail wedding dress suited me best. I actually found my wedding dress by reading another WWW post and found they had bought their wedding dress from a shop close by. I visited Fleur de Lys Bridal in Saffron Walden and on the first visit I found my dream dress. They were amazing and made me feel at ease.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Grey Ben Sherman suit. Green Reiss Tie & Socks. White Denham shirt. Brown Doc Martin Shoes.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We took our time on deciding our readings and music for our day. We were really happy with the final choices we made. We asked our best friend Inbal to read a poem that she felt reflected us. One thing I asked from Inbal was for her to not share the poem with us. We wanted it to be a surprise on the day. Inbal's reading made us cry as she told us why she had chosen the poem. The title is 'Your Laughter' and Inbal explained the reason why she had chosen the poem, was because no one makes Benita laugh more then Matt.

Processional - i Giorni - Ludovico Einaudi

Hymms - O Perfect Love & Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us

Reading Your Laughter By Pablo Neruda Read by Inbal Mizrahi

Bible Reading Reading - 4. Romans 12.9-18 Read by David Rice

Recessional - Marvin Gaye - Ain't No Mountain High Enough

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My two older sisters were my maids of honours and then I had my three best friends from Uni. I couldn't have done it with out them. I felt extremely lucky to have these five as my bridesmaids. My two older sisters wore Marisota dresses which were a soft blush pink. Maxine, Jade anf Inbal wore cream open back Massimo Dutti dresses. They all looked beautiful.

THE FLOWERS | We picked the style of flowers we wanted and then visited a florist in Hertford called Scarlet Rose. They did an amazing job and totally understood the vision we wanted. The flowers played a large part in setting the scene. We had antique roses that added to the rustic feel of our wedding.

THE CAKE | A three tier fruit cake with pink icing.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | The most amazing photographers we could have asked for. Once we saw G and Ben's previous work we knew we had to have them for our big day. It felt like we had two friends with us the whole day, making us feel comfortable throughout and understanding the kind of mood and atmosphere we were looking to create. They were great from start to finish and the final images couldn't have been better.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Pinterest worked wonders for us, we would collect images/ ideas and look to re create them for our wedding. We knew we wanted our wedding to be creative and rustic and we made sure we stuck to this theme throughout. Karen - Matt's mum is an amazing creative who can draw and sew. Karen created all the bunting, table runners and any extra little details that featured in the wedding. If you look at our wedding pictures anything handmade was created by Karen. She is the most talented person.

To get the rustic/vintage look we collected all the glassware for the wedding (wine glasses, serving bowls, candle holders, water jugs etc). We spent over a year collecting all the vintage glasses used in the wedding and it was super fun spending the extra time with Karen and visiting old vintage shops.

Favours for the men - old football cards Matt had when he was younger. Matching guests to the teams they supported. Matt is a big football fan.
Favours for the women - all handmade by Matt's mum. The women received a hand stitched heart filled with lavender collected from Matt's nan's garden.

Lights - festoon lighting set the scene for the wedding. The lighting bought out the features in the hall and gave off a romantic feel.

Chalk boards - The wood used for all our chalk boards was collected by Matt's dad Michael who resized, sanded and painted all the boards. We used chalk boards for our table plan, food menu, order of the day, welcome sign and our welcome note to guests arriving at the church. All the signs were hand drawn by Matt. My favourite one was the home made backdrop for the photo booth we created. I didn't want a large photo booth taking up too much space. Michael created the large board and Matt designed the board. We used old props and asked our guests to use our hashtag when taking the pictures.

Our main meal was Fish and Chips from the wonderful Godfreys in Harpenden. They served the food from an old vintage van and Luke the owner really went above and beyond as our caterer.
The evening food was a Greek Mezze created by my mum and step-dad. I really wanted to have a part of my culture involved in the wedding and this was one of the ways we could involve my Greek side. My parents did an amazing job and spent weeks deciding on the food.

THE HONEYMOON | I am half Greek and I have never introduced Matt to Cyprus or Greece. I spent my summers in Cyprus and wanted to show Matt parts of my culture. So we settled on somewhere we both haven't been and chose Santorini. It was two weeks of eating the most amazing food. Climbing mountains, exploring the island, visiting an old outdoor cinema and watching films under the stars. Santorini is the most amazing island with plenty to see.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | I have a few. But for me I have two significant memories. My mum walking me down the aisle and telling me she loved me more than the world. Mum told me not to be scared and that she was giving me away to the most amazing man. My mum raised me and my two sisters all on her own and having her give me away is a memory I will never forget. At my 16th birthday party my mum told me I would marry Matt one day. I obviously brushed it off but 12 years later I was walking down the aisle to Matt. It's amazing how right mums are!

The second was Matt's speech. I am sure our wedding guests would agree with me when I say Matt's speech was amazing. He had the room laughing and crying. He told our guests our story of how we got together at 11 years old and then took them through our journey of how we got to where we are today 16 years later.

(Matt) When Benita came into the church was the memory I will always look back on with most happiness. Another great moment was when our first dance music stopped midway through. One of our friends started clapping to the beat and before we knew it everyone was joining in, it became a stand out moment. So our first dance music was actually just a slow clap, but everyone loved it!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy your day. It only happens once. And don't worry when things go wrong, just run with it and turn it around into something positive. Also book a honeymoon straight after! It was so important to have that time together after the big day to just relax and have fun.
