Few people have lived the adage "you can't hurry love" quite like George Kirby, Britian's oldest groom-to-be.

Kirby and his 91-year-old fiancee, Doreen Luckie, are finally getting married after nearly three decades of dating, The Telegraph reports.

"We seem to have made every national newspaper. Good job I didn't marry her years ago..." Kirby joked in a recent Facebook post.

The couple is set to break a world record when they finally tie the knot on June 13, Kirby's 103rd birthday, with a combined age of 194.

"I didn't think that was possible, because you hear so many people living into their hundreds now, and lots of people in their nineties," Luckie told Metro UK, which first reported the story. "I thought 'well, we can't be the only ones.'"

Kirby, who is active on Facebook, confirmed the record on Saturday:

Kirby proposed to Luckie this past Valentine's Day after reportedly being pressured by their adult children, HuffPost UK reports. Between them, the couple has seven children, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

"I didn't get down on one knee because I don't think I'd have been able to get back up," Kirby told The Telegraph.

Luckie said the couple met in 1988 through an organization that helps seniors meet and socialize. The pair live together -- "in sin" as they say -- in a hotel in Eastbourne, East Sussex that's owned by Kirby's son.

On Facebook, Kirby has been sharing his and Luckie's excitement about the international press they've received for their nuptials. The witty Kirby, however, clucked over a recent Daily Mirror headline in which the British tabloid splashed the words: "TO HAVE AND TO OLD."

The marriage will be Kirby's third and Luckie's second.
