5 Lazy Girl Beauty Hacks for the Summer

5 Lazy Girl Beauty Hacks for the Summer

via

It's a catch-22 - summer brings us sunny days at the beach, bonfires, pool parties and BBQs, but it also brings hot, sticky weather that can take its toll on your skin and hair. Before the sizzling days of summer arrive, we want to make sure you are equipped for what's to come. Check out these five summer beauty hacks that could save your life (no life vest required).

If your makeup is melting while you're getting ready ...

Don't you hate it when the makeup that you just applied to perfection already starts to melt off before you walk out the door? This is especially common in the summer months when the simple act of getting ready feels like a workout and leaves you sweaty and winded (or maybe we're just out of shape). Don't allow your makeup to suffer this melted fate! If you feel like your face is starting to heat up, grab a blow dryer and blast it with cold air to dry up your makeup in a jiffy! Also, for good measure, always spritz your face with setting spray (try L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray) to keep your makeup in tact throughout the day!

If you want to avoid parched, dry hair ...

Chlorine-infused pools and salt-filled ocean water can really do a number on your hair ... and not the good kind. If your post-pool or beach hair is prone to knots, get a quick fix by creating your own leave-in conditioner and carrying it around in a little travel-sized bottle. To do this just pour about two tablespoons of your normal conditioner into a small spray bottle and fill up the rest of the bottle with water. Shake it up a bit and, voila, you've got a travel-sized hair de-tangler! If you prefer going the ready-made route, try a leave in like Pureology Fresh Approach Dry Condition to take care of those pesky knots and tangles and keep your hair from getting dehydrated!

If you insist on wearing makeup while beach- or poolside ...

We get that you want to look your best while you're sipping that margarita by the pool, but water and the hot, sweltering sun do not always make for an ideal environment to rock a full face of makeup. Try going for a lighter, barely-there look by applying a little BB cream and dabbing some cream blush to the apples of your cheeks. This will keep your skin moisturized and hydrated while giving you some natural coverage. Also, don't forget your sunscreen! Mix it in with your BB cream so your face is covered all day long (literally).

You can still look like a beach goddess without having to whip out that hot curling iron! Just spritz your damp hair with sea salt spray (we love Kérastase Spray Á Porter) and wrap two sections of hair into buns. Secure the buns with an elastic hair tie or bobby pins and, using your blow dryer, blast your hair with cold air. Once the hair is completely dry, undo the buns and fluff the style with your fingers. As an alternative to buns, you can try French braiding the two sections of hair and drying them with cold air. This should do the trick, too!

If you want a mess-free faux tan ...

While we do not condone baking in the sun to get a bronze glow, we are huge supporters of faux tanning lotions (and anything that will get you glowing safely). However, one common issue relating to sunless tanning lotions is their tendency to get messy ... and stay messy. If you got a little overzealous with the sunless tanner and are looking a little splotchy and orange, don't worry! Just grab a little baking soda, sprinkle it on a washcloth and scrub your damp skin with it. Rinse with warm water and you should be good to go! This handy, homemade technique also works great for removing sunless tanner from hands and feet (it happens to the best of us).
