Sweet & Pretty Village Fete Floral Museum Wedding - Whimsical...

via

Ahhh this is just the prettiest wedding. The flowers just blew me away... Daisies, Craspedia, peach Roses and blue Hydrangeas. I am in floral heaven this morning.

WWW readers Katie and Liam tied the knot on a gorgeous summers day at St Fagans museum in Cardiff. They created a fun village fete feel to their day complete with a raffle, cute bunting and an awesome VW Beetle wedding car.

There was the loveliest attire including bridesmaids in floral dresses and a pretty special Cath Kidston inspired cake masterpiece.

Eleanor Jane Photography, thank you so very much for kindly sending over your gorgeous photographs.

THE VISION | We wanted a relaxed and fun day with a slight 'village-fete' feel, including plenty of bunting, flowers and personal touches.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I absolutely loved planning the wedding! My mum and I went to quite a few wedding fayres (where I got very excited about everything!) and I spent hours on Pinterest and wedding blogs looking for ideas. Luckily, my mum is very organised and made sure that we actually got everything booked instead of just lusting after other people's weddings - thank you mum!

THE VENUE | We only ever visited one wedding venue - St Fagans, the National History Museum in Cardiff - because it was immediately obvious how perfect it would be for our wedding! We both visited the museum on school trips as children, so it held a lot of sentimental value for us, and the Welsh history was very appropriate as we both have Welsh families! We were married in an intimate ceremony at the beautiful castle, before having our evening party in the Oakdale Institute building.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My wedding dress was from the Mori Lee Bridal Collection and came from Cardiff Bridal Centre, along with my hairpiece. It was the first dress I tried on, and although it sounds clichéd, I knew it was the right dress straight away! My lace heels came from BHS (I actually bought them before finding my dress!), and I also bought cute trainers from Cath Kidston for the walk to the evening party.

My hair was done by a friend of my mum. I have quite long hair, so she suggested an intricate plaited style that would still look 'weddingy' and could incorporate my hairpiece, while still showing off the length of my hair. I absolutely loved it - I didn't want to take it out!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had two bridesmaids - Kate, my oldest friend who I've known since we were 11, and Rhi, my closest work friend. It took me ages to find dresses that would suit both girls and fit in with the wedding. We stumbled upon their pale blue floral dresses from Ted Baker almost by accident, but they were perfect! We teamed them with nude heels from New Look.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Liam's and his best man's suits both came from Marks & Spencer. They chose dark grey, slim fitting suits, with pale gold ties. We had considered hiring suits, but these actually worked out cheaper to buy than hiring elsewhere! (Liam has since worn the same suit to both his brothers' weddings, so certainly got his money's worth!)

THE READINGS & MUSIC | My brother read I'll Be There For You, a light-hearted poem by Louise Cuddon about all the little things that can go wrong in life. He was quite nervous about doing it, but it was lovely - funny, but emotional too. We had a harpist, Eluned Henry, play throughout our ceremony, which was beautiful and added a Welsh touch to the day!

During the evening party, we had an indie rock band called The Jacks, who made sure the dance floor was full for most of the night! It took us ages to decide on a first dance song - we couldn't find anything we both liked (we have pretty different music tastes!) that was also appropriately sentimental. We finally decided on The Lumineers - Ho Hey, which was perfect and still reminds me of our big day whenever I hear it!

THE FLOWERS | The flowers were one of the last things I booked (terrible I know!) and it wasn't until I met Verity of Blush Floral Art at a wedding fayre that I had any idea of what flowers I wanted! During our initial consultation, I gave Verity a very vague idea of our wedding vision as I know nothing about flowers, and she was full of ideas for the bouquets and venue decoration. The flowers matched our theme perfectly, mainly pale blue and pink with lots of daisies and craspedia for a fun touch. For the tables, she also provided beautiful old books, heart shaped confetti, and tiny tealight candles. They were perfect - beautiful flowers everywhere without looking over the top.

THE CAKE | Our wedding cake was created by Rachel Hains of Little Cake Cupboard, who is the most talented cake designer I've ever met. After hearing the vision for our wedding, she designed an incredible Cath Kidston-inspired cake, with stripes, polka dots, hand-painted roses, bunting, and topped with an edible bow. I couldn't decide on just one cake flavour, so we ended up having four different flavoured tiers, and I'm pleased to say it definitely tasted as delicious as it looked!

THE PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was the amazing Eleanor of Eleanor Jane Photography. After meeting her at a wedding fayre and looking through her portfolio of quirky and fun wedding photographs, I knew she would be perfect for capturing our big day! She had so many fun ideas for photos and was so patient and enthusiastic throughout a very long day. Neither of us are very confident in front of a camera, but Eleanor, and her second photographer Simon, were so encouraging, that we felt relaxed straight away. I can't thank them enough for capturing our wedding so perfectly! They also included a 'ffotobooth' during our evening party, which was so much fun, and our guests absolutely loved.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our transport was provided by Bev and Marc from VW Weddings Wales. We hired their two classic VW Beetles, Daisy and Lily, for the bridal party, and their VW Bus, Oscar, for the groomsmen. They were the perfect way to make an entrance and so popular with all our guests. Bev and Marc were absolutely lovely, and so patient as people queued up to have a photo taken with their beautiful Volkswagens!

As we were trying to stick to a strict budget, most of the decorations and all the invitations were made by me and my mum. We used raffle tickets as drinks vouchers during the day, and my mum managed to source metres of polka dot bunting, and cute crepe paper puffballs, which looked perfect decorating the evening venue. We had a slightly unconventional home made guest book too - guests wrote messages on coloured luggage tags and tied them onto a heart-shaped frame.

Our wedding favours were tiny heart-shaped Welsh cakes, provided by Fabulous Welsh Cakes. When we were planning the wedding, we lived around the corner from their shop, so I obviously had to give their Welsh cakes a sample before buying the favours! Needless to say, they were delicious and went down really well with our guests.

To fit in with the village fete theme, St Fagans provided an old-fashioned ice cream cart, serving ice cream to our guests as they arrived for the evening party, which was a lovely touch.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy every minute of your day, because it goes by so quickly! So many people told me this beforehand, and it's true - I couldn't believe how quickly the day went by! I wanted to do it all again the next day!

And don't worry about little details - again, I was told this so many times when I was panicking about whether the day would run smoothly, but you'll be far too busy enjoying yourself to even think about the things that were worrying you!
