via

There's a common perception among engaged couples who don't have a full-service wedding planner that they only need help the day of the wedding. What these couples don't realize: It's critical that their coordinator become involved at least one month before the wedding in order for their day to run seamlessly. Herein lies the major difference between "Day-of Coordination" and "Month-of Coordination." To clarify, our friend Ashley La Fleur of La Belle Fleur Events unravels the confusion many couples are experiencing.

MODwedding: So, what is the major difference between "Day-of Coordination" and Month-of Coordination"? What should couples know before booking a wedding coordinator?

Ashley La Fleur: After considering the countless hours they've planned, the hundreds of decisions they've made, and all the last-minute details that need to be executed; many couples are opting to hire a wedding coordinator to handle the final details on their wedding day. With this decision, couples hope to allot more time to enjoy this major milestone with friends and family.

Wedding coordinators who execute this service typically start about one to two months before the wedding. In the past, this service was called "Day-Of" coordination because the coordinator handles all the logistics on the day of the wedding. While that is true, in order for your wedding coordinator to truly create a flawless wedding for you, coordinators do quite a bit of behind-the-scenes work that is crucial for the wedding to run smoothly. "Month of Coordination" allows the coordinator to:

  1. Become familiar with the couple's vendors
  2. Create a comprehensive timeline for the wedding day
  3. Assist with floor plan development
  4. Attend the final walk-through at the venue(s)
  5. Assist with the wedding rehearsal
  6. Be present on the day of the wedding (obviously)

The best part of opting for "Month of Coordination" over "Day of Coordination"? The coordinator truly gets to know you better. He or she understands your worries about the day, what you're most excited about, and any specific family dynamics that should be understood before the big day. With all of the background knowledge, if anything were to happen on the wedding day, the coordinator knows how you would want it handled. This gives you more peace of mind and allows you to be fully present with your love and your closest friends and family.
