Rustic English Barn Wedding with Pretty DIY Details

Rustic English Barn Wedding with Pretty DIY Details

via

We've got such a pretty wedding to share with you today, from one of the most enchanting parts of England.

Bath is a place that's steeped in romance, history and beauty. So it was only fitting that Kyle & Nicola chose it as the backdrop for their rustic barn wedding, returning to the town where they first met as university neighbours!

And their day, captured by the wonderful Ria Mishaal Photography was worthy of such a special setting.

Nicola's Sarah Janks wedding dress mixed sophisticated with stylish, perfectly pairing with Kyle's smart grey check suit with navy touches.

With elegant English florals, rustic adornments, and DIY favours and stationery, their decor was just the right blend of refined, relaxed and personal.

With lots of sweet ideas you're going to want to borrow for your own big day, (and a brownie wedding cake we'd love to take a bite of!) sit back, relax, and enjoy Nicola and Kyle's chic barn bash.

Wedding Day Snapshot

Our Love Story

We were neighbours at university, we met in our first week when Kyle jumped through Nicola's window and we've been inseparable ever since. While Nicola was at work, Kyle pretended to go to the gym but actually set up the house with flowers. They walked back home together and when they opened the door there was a tiny box on the table. Kyle got down on one knee and Nicola went into shock, as it was so unexpected. Our wedding in three words? Rustic, handmade, personal

The Venue

We wanted to get married in Bath as that's where we met at university. We saw the barn at Priston Mill and though it was so perfect, it is so naturally beautiful and such a huge space.

The Budget

We really pushed the boat out on Nicolas dress (not that it was up to Kyle at all!) and the venue.

All the favours decorations and invitations were handmade but we wanted to do that anyway, as it's so much more personal, it wasn't all about saving money.

Our Favourite Moments

To be honest the whole day was totally amazing and there was nothing we would change. Seeing eachother at the end of the aisle is something we will never forget, feeling like you're the only two people in the room because it is such a special moment.

The Music

The processional music was Kyle's favourite classical song - Canon in D major. Our recessional was Ho Hey by The Lumineers. Our first dance was Your Song by Ellie Goulding.

The Photography

Ria made us feel so comfortable, she was laid back and relaxed and captured natural shots without the need for awkward posing.

The Decor & Details

Our inspiration was rustic, neutral and simple. We had vintage bottles with flowers on log rounds, and a handmade table plan and place settings. Our favors were handmade olive oil from Nicola's nan's farm in Cyprus.

The Refreshments

We served bellinis, the food was a pork belly starter, lamb cous cous main and crème brulee dessert. Our cake was an amazing red velvet brownie with marshmallow filling.

Advice for Other Couples

Set yourself a budget but don't push it, you will go over it! Make sure you still have enough money each month to do the things you love and choose which things you're willing to break your budget on and where you could save. Make a website for your guests to get more information from so you don't have to answer the same questions 70 times! Appy Couple is great.

The Honeymoon

We honeymooned in Bali. It was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. We climbed a volcano, fed monkeys, rode elephants, visited temples and relaxed by the beach in a spa resort.

Isn't it pretty? I think my favourite detail is the olive oil from Nicola's grandmother's farm in Cyprus, such a nice touch!

Thanks so much to Ria Mishaal, and our newlyweds, Mr & Mrs Gray for sharing their beautiful barn wedding with us.
