What Mariel says below about the purpose of an engagement session... a pure and raw version of a couple, free from the chaos of the wedding day... really resonates with us. Use your time with your photographer to get to know him or her, get comfortable in front of the camera, and have so much fun! From Mariel Hannah Photography: "As a photographer I search for inspiration everywhere. Though, most of the time nature is my muse. There is something so beautiful with the way light filters through the trees, it makes everything feel like a dream... This engagement was no exception. With any shoot and project I take on, I do my best to devote as much heart and thought into it.. After all this is my absolute love and passion.
I direct as much thought into engagement shoots as it is often looked over. For me, I see engagement sessions as an opportunity to truly reflect the personality of a couple. To show who they are, to be stripped down from the craziness of a wedding day in able to focus on love, and love alone. Prior to each session I have a conversation with the couple to discuss their vision. What they desire the final photographs to look like, what kind of feeling will they have as they look at the photographs? Will it be playful, adventurous, romantic? All of this ultimately translates on the location, lighting and clothing that is chosen. I do my best to control as much of the environment while still leaving room for authentic moments to occur during the session. Curt and Emily is such a special couple! Emily gave 100% trust on the vision and clothing choices. Together we spent time going over dresses, colors and style. It's wonderful engagement photographs as this, that gives me the satisfaction of still believing the absolute importance of engagement shoots.
