Matt and Mel's Elopement without Eloping in Croatia.....

We are taking you to the picturesque shores of Hvar in Croatia today with Matt and Mel's beautiful and intimate wedding.

Fondly referred to as their elopement without eloping, all Matt and Mel wanted for their wedding day was an intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family in a location where everyone could relax and enjoy each others company. After falling in love with Hvar, they enlisted the help of wedding planner Tamara from Adriatic Weddings who helped them plan their beautiful ceremony on a sailing Gullet at sea followed by a 5 star dinner cooked for them by a private chef in their villa. The decor for the day was simple yet elegant and there were personal touches throughout such as the blessing of shells during their ceremony and their personal vows. The whole day just sounds super chilled and idyllic. What more relaxing can you get than saying I do at sea with the gentle movement of the waves and the sound of the water. It just sounds so perfect and calm - a word that isn't usually associated with a wedding!

If you have dreamed of an intimate wedding but have been put off by family members or friends then I hope this beautiful wedding will give you the confidence to go for it. Matt and Mel only had 5 guests to their day and it is just as special as if there were 50 guests!

Matt and Mel talk us through their elopement without eloping....

Matt and I were headed out for a picnic to celebrate our 9 th anniversary on Monday 25 th November 2013 in a park close to our place. Our picnic was set and Matt had put everything in the car and we headed out. The weather was looking ominous as was the car fuel gauge, so we decided on a spot a bit closer to home. Everything was going great; we were having a bit to eat and watching the river flow past us as we were talking about our upcoming working holiday to the UK. Matt asked me to turn around while he went to the car. We had promised no gifts because we needed our money for travelling, so I remembered being annoyed that he was surprising me with what I thought was an anniversary gift. When he came back to the car I remember hearing an unzipping of something and thinking I have absolutely no idea what he is doing. When I finally get to turn around, he is holding his guitar and had written a song for me. The lyrics were his own and the music was if not for you by Bob Dylan. As he sang to me, I remember gushing with happiness just at the fact he had taken the time to write me a song. As the song came to an end, his last line that I remember was "and there is just one thing I need to ask you''. This is the part where I melted and came undone with tears as he was proposing and had surprised me, I had no idea. I remember jumping over the table at him, saying ''yes yes yes''. We sat for a long time embracing, and then Matt says, oh and what about this which was the ring. I had completely forgotten about a ring through all of the excitement. It is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen, fit perfectly and he picked it all himself.

Matt and I wanted an intimate and private ceremony and the only prerequisite was for it to be in a beautiful location. Hvar stole our hearts when we were looking on the internet for locations. The next step was to find the amazing Tamara, wedding planner and everything came together better than we could have dreamt it. We wanted the day to just be about us and what we were celebrating. We also wanted nothing more than to spoil our 5 guests to nothing but 5star luxury for the 4 days we were in Hvar. We wanted our ceremony to be like nothing any of our guests had experienced and we succeeded in doing this.

We decided to have the ceremony on a sailing Gullet around the shore of Hvar. No music was necessary as we used the sounds of the sea. We played our first song after the ceremony, Bob Dylan's Tonight I'll be staying here with you. We had only 5 of our closest family members and friends with us there on the day and it could not have been any more intimate or magical. We wrote and recited our own individual vows and held a shell ceremony asking our guests to place a blessing for us on the shells and then throw them into the sea.

Seeing the look in my future husband's eyes when he looked at me as I climbed the stairs to the deck of the Gullet where he was waiting on for me. Hearing his vows and saying my own are equal favourite to this moment.

We hired a private chef to come in to cook and serve our 3 course meal in the Villa. The table was set out beautifully by the Villa Host Anna and Wedding Planner Tamara. We just wanted relaxed but elegant and subtle décor. The chef prepared an entrée which included 2 types of pastas and a main which included succulent beef and mouth-watering seafood. He finished off the meal with an amazing dessert.

I know we all have multiple influences in our lives with family, friends and such but make the day for you and your partner only. Your happiness on the special day is the most important and this is the right time to be a little selfish. Have the wedding you have dreamed of. Do not have any second thoughts on the choices you are making, be confident and be bold.
