When did you go on your honeymoon?

We went on our honeymoon during the month of February 2016. We left the day after the wedding and spent the next 21 days exploring Europe.

It wasn't your "typical stay at a resort and lay out" kind of honeymoon. We are adventurers! Our offbeat honeymoon was all about flying in a helicopter over Paris, hot air ballooning in France, staying in a castle, gondola rides in Venice, cooking classes in Florence.

Where exactly did you travel?

Our first week we spent in Spain where we flew into Madrid and drove up to the northern coast. There we stayed in a small surfing village called Mundaka. Aaron got to surf the world-famous Mundaka break, and I made friends with our host that we were staying with. (We used the site AirBnB for housing during each leg of our trip).

We took some day trips to San Sebastián ( a gift from the registry) and Bilbao and filled up on tapas every day ( more gifts from our registry).

We then flew over to Amsterdam for a four night stay with another hosted visit from AirBnB.

Then we went and flew over to France where we stayed in a castle for two nights ( my FAVE gift from our registry) and then spent the next five days in Paris where we took in a show at the Moulin Rouge ( another awesome registry gift!) and a helicopter ride over Paris ( yay for gifts).

After Paris we flew over to Italy where we started in Venice enjoyed a few days and some gondola rides ( registry gift strikes again!), went to Florence took a group pasta making class ( registry gift!), an air balloon ride ( Yass!) met some awesome peeps and then ended our journey in Rome.

Why did you choose that destination?

We both knew if we were going to do a honeymoon during the off-season (less tourists more fun!) in Europe we wanted to see as much of Europe as possible. We saved for a year and a half for we knew we wanted it to be a nice long honeymoon to be able to take in a few countries.

We went to Spain because Aaron is an avid surfer and Mundaka during that time of year has good waves. Paris was on my must to and we both agreed we had to go try some Italian wines. Also our family and friends all travel and suggested Amsterdam and Florence.

What was the most memorable activity or experience?

Honestly, the registry was amazing for us in being able to do some things that we are probably never going to do in life again all at once. And all our family and friends felt included in the experience.

For me it was two of our registry gifts: our stay in a 17th century castle, and our cooking class in Florence. Aaron really enjoyed all of the different tapas in Spain, and, of course, he got to check surfing in Mundaka off of his bucket list.

Honestly, the registry was amazing for us in being able to do some things that we are probably never going to do in life again all at once. And all our family and friends felt included in the experience.

Did you receive any positive feedback from friends/family on your honeymoon registry? If so, what did they say?

We received so much feedback about what a great idea it was! We had lived together for a few years before we married so everyone knew we had everything we could ever need, and many people thought it was very fitting for us to have this type of registry. They also loved that we would be contributing to something we would really enjoy and remember forever! People are still talking about it.

Looking back, what was your favorite aspect of setting up a honeymoon registry?

Our absolute favorite part was the customization option. We both knew if we were going to do this type of registry we would already have all the flights and in between stuff paid for so it wasn't like we were asking people to pay for our honeymoon. It was more fun for people to purchase things we could put on the registry, because they were things that were once-in-a-lifetime experiences that people would love to see us do. So that is how we approached the registry.

After researching things to do in each country we were visiting, we were able to completely customize the choices that were unique to our kind of adventure, out of the "normal" honeymoon choice. Traveler's Joy and our kind of adventure were simply a perfect match.
