Cult Beauty Products That Have Withstood the Test of Time

It's a tale as old as time: Girl meets beauty product. Girl falls madly in love with beauty product. Girl has heart broken when the unthinkable happens and her beloved product is significantly altered-or worse-discontinued. Gasp.

We've all been there more times than we care to count, but luckily, some makeup, hair and skin care items have been holding their own since the day they were introduced. Every beauty lover knows that items come and go, but these are the products that have stood the test of time and are still going strong!

Three words: Pink. And. Green. Since its 1971 debut, Maybelline's Great Lash, the award-winning product dubbed "America's Favorite Mascara," has been the most recognizable mascara of all time, with a signature green cap, pink bottle and non-clumping formula that is a staple for celebrities, makeup artists, and everyday girls alike. While Maybelline has released plenty of fantastic mascaras over the years, slaying the drugstore mascara category for nearly 100 years, Great Lash is an icon and will reign in millions of makeup bags for years to come.

Ask any major celebrity or fashion hairstylists what spray they trust to hold hairstyles, and their answer will likely be Elnett. Aside from a formula update in 2008, little about the product-with its signature gold can featuring a perfectly coiffed "golden goddess" illustration-has changed since it was created in 1960. Known for its strong hold that also manages to leave hair shiny and brushable, there are now six versions of Elnett on the market, making sure that no strand is ever out of place.

Don't let the name fool you: Kiehl's signature Musk Essence Oil is just as popular with woman as it is with men. The light, fresh scent has been a great fragrance for women on a quest for an alternative to perfume since 1963. Fun fact: It's believed that the original oil was created at the "Kiehl Apothecary" in 1920, though it wasn't discovered until the late 1950s.
