A Bohemian Engagement Shoot and Picnic on The Beach....

Morning Lovely People. It might be grey skies all around Blighty today (I hate to go on about the weather but really? Is it too much to ask for consistent sun. Come on Summer!) but we are all sunshine and smiles on the blog today with a gorgeous styled engagement shoot sent in by Frances Carlisle Photography and featuring some pretty awesome wedding suppliers.

This shoot was styled as a surprise engagement near Burgh Island in Devon for newly engaged real life couple, Carolina Velasquez & Juan Felipe Gonzalez. The idea was to lay out clues leading up to the beach for Carolina to follow. The first set of clues led to a dress laid out for her to wear and the second led to a beach picnic setting where she found Juan Felipe waiting to propose! They then went on to have the engagement shoot on the gorgeous rugged beach. Carolina and Juan had been together for 18 years before they got engaged so this shoot was really quite special and signifies a milestone for them in their relationship.

Francis talks us through the set up of the shoot and all the wonderful suppliers involved.

A couple who've been together almost two decades really do deserve something extraordinary, and with a team of suppliers eager to put together a bohemian, relaxed engagement picnic on the beach, this was a match made in heaven.

We wanted to celebrate the sea in a more organic way, bringing together the colours, using the rocks and cliffs as much as the sand and the sea, so we used natural elements of wood and slate alongside sea green in the dress and relaxed, flowing styling to pull the look together.

Walking on my local beach in the South Hams and looking over to Burgh Island with the jagged slate rocks behind me, I'd already had a vision of who and what I wanted to photograph on that beach - luckily for me, that person was about to get engaged! Ollie's Studio was also looking for a beach shoot to showcase her calligraphy on these gorgeous agate slices (shown here as name cards) and handmade paper stationery (painted in gold leaf - hello!). Keeping it local we teamed up with Bristol based Kirsten ( The Little Wedding Helper) whose authentic, relaxed styling builds up the surprise elements and clues in this engagement.

Kirsten wanted more of a male touch to the tipi, and that's exactly what we got as my brother in law provided the hazel wood and Juan Felipe, (fiancé), helped turn our tipi into an A-frame structure. Emma Hewlett rocked the florals by adorning it with two great tumbling bouquets and providing roses and hydrangea for the picnic and the bouquet.

We then hung the green dip dyed dress (Sabrina by Katya Katya Shehurina from Rock the Frock Bridal) and kitten heel shoes (Karis, by Love Art Wear Art) in readiness for Carolina to find. With her hair styled in a boho braid and curled at local salon Unwind in Bigbury, she returned to the beach to find clues leading her to a picnic of champagne and cake (made to reflect the beach and the seaside by Poshcakes) laid out under the tipi.

Carolina (fiancée, who proposed to Juan Felipe within a couple of weeks of the shoot), said: " The shoot was more romantic than I expected, it inspired me and seals our engagement in the most romantic and symbolic way. My partner and I have been together for 18 years, it is clear that we have taken our time to do things - which is why everything about this has to be special and out of this world.

The photoshoot was more than an engagement session, it became a little ritual shared with the best photographer, her wonderful team, in beautiful scenery and blessed by the sunshine. That day is always going to be in my memory: an engagement is the moment you decide to share your life with your significant other, the wedding is when you make it public. Now let's see if I enjoy the wedding shots as much as I enjoyed the engagement ones!" Photographer: Frances Carlisle Photography
